Tint causing car to ask for key?
Hi Guys,
Just wondering if anyone has experienced this problem. I got my windows tinted (all windows including the front windshield) on August 12th and now the car keeps asking me for the key to start the car. It first happened last Friday. And now it happened again today. Thought it might be the battery in the remote so I tried my spare. Same result. Any clue as to what might be causing the problem? I would do a search but I'm not sure what I need to search. thanks in advance for the help. Char |

Nope stereo install and the tint they used was Solarguard HP I believe. The only thing that changed is the tint. If I am in the car will the tint still cause interference with the key? The strange thing is that I didn't have a problem after the tint til last Friday.
Oh and another question. If I were to do a reset on my car by disconnecting my battery, would I have to reprogram the car to the key? If so, how would I go about doing that? Last edited by CharBoiler; 08-23-2010 at 01:22 PM. |

you wont have to reprogram the key fobs if u disconnect your battery. You will have to reset your windows though.. which makes me wonder, does this happen with the windows fully lowered?

I think I figured out what the problem was.
When the tint guys installed the tint on my windows, they took the rear view mirror off. It looks as if they didn't plug the connector back into the mirror properly. When I pushed the connector into the mirror everything seemed to work. Maybe the key sensor is located in the rear view mirror? It seems to be working now. I will let you guys know if the problem comes up again. Thanks for you help guys. Char |

Yeah....I don't think that was the problem. I am having problems again. I can't figure out what it could be. Work fine all day yesterday. Now this morning it kept asking for the key.

I have a feeling that the BCM is at fault. Maybe some water got into it or the connectors are loose. There was alot of water that came out from below the dash after I got my windows tinted. Maybe some got down to where the BCM is located (lower dash passager side). I have tried arming and disarming the alarm, tried turning on the car with the key, not inside my pocket. I cant even unlock the doors using the button on the door handle or the the trunk. I am going to try
opening up that panel and take a look at the BCM. Last edited by CharBoiler; 08-27-2010 at 01:50 PM. |
