Caravanshaka 07-19-2010 04:20 PM

Kyle is now setting up the return paperwork and fedex call tag.

vater 07-19-2010 04:23 PM

what's the front bumper supposed to look like anyway? aka what pic made you decide to buy this front bumper

not that it'll matter much anyway cause with this hassle you seem to be going through I wont be considering a stillen product when I get my Z.

Jamaica 07-19-2010 04:24 PM

Sorry that had to happen!

Caravanshaka 07-19-2010 04:27 PM

I kinda figured he'd offer to send me a second set of "ears" to test, which I probably would have done just to do my due diligence.

Wretched, which version did you get and how much work was it to put on? If a body shop did it, jlhow expensive?

Looks great btw

I got the V1, I had the same problems that you had. I am really good friends with the owner of the body and we worked on it after hours. The biggest problem I had was with bubbling under the headlights we made small metal bracket and fastened them to the bubbling part to stop it. Then we had to cut, trim and reattach stuff to make things fit right. It was a huge PITA! I got a good buddy discount, I just had to pay for mats so Im not sure much a shop would charge.

Forgestar wheels
S tune spoiler
and factory solid red with a little photoshop effect on the color

I was about to say lol That looks awesome!

Can you PS it with a Blue color with the same effect by chance?

Kyle@STILLEN 07-19-2010 05:14 PM

As Caravanshaka has mentioned we have issued a call tag and will be returning his fascia. As soon as that fascia arrives we will be installing it on one of our cars and video taping the entire process.

I just came back in from the shop where I had the modeling shop guys test fit one of the fascias that we pulled off the shelves this morning. It took a bit of time obviously to remove the factory fascia and the windshield washer bottle but the actual installation of the fascia took between 15-30 seconds. I recorded the installation from start to finish and also included some talking with instructions on some of the key points just to clear up any confusion. In my opinion the fit is perfect. As soon as we install the final clips and bolts everything will be tight and in its perfect mounting location. You will see this video before the end of the day.

I did consider this option however there is no point. At the end of the day those pieces come out of a mold and the parts are all the same. New ears would have made no difference.

The bubbling issue in the front of the head light was definitely a big headache and one that we are very disappointed in. I'm sorry that you experienced such a hassle in making it fit correctly. For the V. 2 we added some extra length to the area under the headlight which will keep that strength there and maintain its structure.

Wouldn't this be a good thing to try, just to Confirm the point that they are All the same?

Just trying to think of ways to minimize all the variables...

He said they are going to install caravans bumper on their car, same end result and caravan gets his money back

Caravanshaka 07-19-2010 05:52 PM

Kyle,

Just want you to know that I want this bumper to fit just as much as you do. If the video you release somehhlow shows some different way of installing it that works, I will be happy to try it out if you think it will make a difference.

:iagree:

It IS a very, very good looking bumper after all.

Kyle@STILLEN 07-19-2010 06:16 PM

Caravan-I don't know what might be causing your issues. It could be a component of the Injen intake? I hope these video's help...

Here is one of the video's...

Really? It worked for me when I previewed it...I hope this direct link works, I'm not very good with computers so I wouldn't be surprised if I did something wrong.

Caravanshaka 07-19-2010 06:30 PM

Yup, not doing anything different. I wish mine fit like that, but it doesn't. :(

Caravanshaka 07-19-2010 06:31 PM

Oh, and those links worked just fine

Kyle@STILLEN 07-19-2010 06:45 PM

I'm not sure what it could be then. As you can see it's designed to just sort of snap into place.

Fedex will be coming out to pick up your fascia soon and we will test fit it on our car to see what could be happening. I will post the results of that test fitment as soon as the fascia arrives.

Anyone in Southern California with an Injen intake on their Z who would be interested in allowing us to use their vehicle for a test fitment?

Caravanshaka 07-19-2010 06:54 PM

The injen intake isn't making any sort of contact with the bumper, so I don't think that will make much of a difference.

Jamaica 07-19-2010 08:29 PM

damn it sucks you couldnt make it fit. I had some issues with my intakes but found a different method

dlmartin81 07-19-2010 09:33 PM

Damn....first you have problems with Forgestar.....now STILLEN. Man, luck is not on your side.

Hope it all gets resolved for ya.

vater 07-20-2010 08:23 AM

wow that is a nice fitment in the vid...

yours must be defective

Glad this is resolved and glad to see Stillen doing the right thing to fix things.

PS: Shumby stop being a douche and GTFO with your leaking S/C :bowrofl:

Jamaica 07-21-2010 02:12 AM

what is your next plan with a bumper?

Caravanshaka 07-22-2010 11:48 PM

*UPDATE*

Did another test fit tonight before I sent it back to Stillen. Wanted to exhaust all options before calling it quits.

GOOD NEWS, I found the issue causing my bumper not to be able to fit hardly at all. The issue is in the headlight alignment. With so many mounting points on the headlight, any variation in the headlight compared to the one they molded from could cause issues. I've removed my headlights enough to know that they don't bolt exactly in the same spot automatically, there is some play in the mounting.

So I loosened the headlights before test fitting this time, and was able to get the bumper on correctly. I still have some issues that I have addressed with Kyle, so waiting or his response.

For now, some pictures of this test fitment:

Looks like a good fit! They should include the headlight bolts loosening in all instructions from now on.

So what are the issues you still have?

gaps and bulges in various areas. Gaps near the upper outside edges of the bumper. Bulging on the top lip. The passenger side ear doesn't match up to the bumper, etc.

I see what you mean, I thought the bulging was just light reflection.. iPhone screen isn't the best way to look at this... :)

G37Sam 07-23-2010 09:53 AM

Even though it's not yet 100%, it's a great leap from the previous step. That kit is so sexy it would hurt to see it go back!

Best of luck

Caravanshaka 08-04-2010 09:45 AM

Just a quick update.

I decided to return the bumper to Stillen. I never could get it to fit the way I wanted, and wasn't about to spend an extra $400-500 for a shop to do the required trimming and fixing to get it to look right.

Bumper arrived back at Stillen yesterday, just waiting for my money back.
