EVO-R 370Z carbon fiber exterior door covers

Been working on these for awhile. Finally got some finished product. Photo shown this is for RHD. I have ask factory to cover on the kit hole. So when shipping out LHD covers the hole will not be there. Here are some sweet pics on OEM door handles.

looks kinda chunky, no? makes the door handle look considerably bigger?

EVOR 07-03-2010 11:25 PM

not much bigger. the cover is about 0.5MM thin only. All surface is closed to original surface.

XwChriswX 07-04-2010 12:35 AM

This is just a Cover, not a replacement... Hmmm...

Does make it look larger... Plus when you open it the silver will be there.

Also makes the button stand out more, might wanna hit that with some gloss black or something.

I dunno, I think I'm still gonna go for color matched handles. But those loving CF will die for these lol.

Looks good for what it is EVO-R. Nicely done.

Jamaica 07-04-2010 01:41 AM

ill rock it. paint it to color match the car.

Might as well just have the handles painted lol. No use putting CF on like that if you're just gonna mask it by color matching...

Soon 07-04-2010 07:42 AM

well at least you dont have to worry about painting the handles then slowly seeing the scratches pile up till it looks like a piece of turd

count me in!!!

KaienZ34 07-04-2010 06:42 PM

Yeah on the dark color Z's this would be the SH!$

Actually i like that look. carbon fiber candied is a good combo and it pops in the sun

metz 07-11-2010 08:04 PM

Any word on these yet? Pricing?

man if you guys do please post pics and maybe a diy

this setup is ideal,

NewYorkJon34 07-12-2010 12:31 PM

I'll think about doing it, I know I could, but idk if the sunlight would mess up the vinyl.

:rofl2: we probably could but i like my door handles in that satin titanimum color for my silver Z. :yum:

NewYorkJon34 07-12-2010 12:43 PM

Ya I have a feeling that it might look alil rice

kenchan 07-12-2010 12:51 PM

yah, i think we want to do 'just enough' CF wrapping and not too much. too much of a good thing all turns into rice. hahaha :D

NewYorkJon34 07-12-2010 01:17 PM

Ya, it's bad enough it's not real carbon fiber. I was looking at that carID kit, they really did think of every part and carbon it. I know it's a stick on, I just wonder how good it looks in person. Also I wanted to mention to you, have you seen the "curious models" interior Carbon Fiber pieces? They look really unique, like the interior door handle pieces. It costs $$$ though.

i saw the actual CarID kit and it's not impressive. between their kit and our 3M CF overlays, the 3M overlays win hands down.

first the carid one use wat they call 'real' carbon fiber but the weaves look like shitty steelwool strands and very small. the overall thickness is about 1.5mm so it's a huge HERE I PUT A STICKER ON TOP OF MY TRIM look. at least the EvoR and Fujimura's CF look very high quality and clean. the strands and color are perfect.

ive seen the curiuos models and i like the door handles and their gauge hats. :) but i dont foresee me spending that kind of money on CF bits when we know they dont do any more than just make the interior look nicer... so in that respect, i think the 3M sheets are by far best bang for buck and makes the most sense cause we're not trying to fake anything.

NewYorkJon34 07-12-2010 03:11 PM

I noticed today that the sun might be affecting my head unit piece. I think the car is getting too hot during the day while I'm at work. It's looks perfect though.

NewYorkJon34 07-12-2010 03:20 PM

Hey kenchan, do you think there is a better way to apply these vinyls? Like I've been thinking about it and it's either cut a template which is still too big then cut it against the car after it's applied. Or like how I did the head unit in carbon, the area around the circles I kinda had to cut right on it. You can't see any scratches cus the carbon covers it, but it's still there. I'm going to order more and do the vanity mirrors like u did, then maybe my shifter ring. The only thing the sucks is the s-mode & emergency light buttons. I have a piece of tint from a messed up bluebatmobile order that I was thinking of putting over the buttons, maybe.

i think the vinyl has a tendency to shrink just a little bit in heat so wat ive been doing is applying a good amount of heat even on the flat surfaces where i dont really need heat. this way it's like a pre-shrunk pair of jeans and no surprises later. :icon17:

yah, it's case by case so hard to say which is the easiest way. for the HU trim i think the easiest way would be to buy an extra trim for the HU, cut vinyl to the general size, work from the middle of the trim (top of the center hvac dial area) and wrap the HU opening as evenly as possible. then work on the hvac dial openings starting from the center hole.

afterwards cut a hole in the trim openings about 1/2" from the edges and them wrap it over onto the back side. then take the HU out and replace the trim all together.

i learned from doing the G's rear valance that these vinyls stretch and form very well with the right amount of heat. i DONT think the pro's are wasting time making a precise template other than for the door switches and other bits in the car that will take more time to remove/install than the wrap itself. :)

if i was to wrap the door switches using minimal time would be to make the templates for the switch openings on a retangular sheet of vinyl, then just apply the vinyl, cut the vinyl about 1/2" around the primeter of the trim and wrap it to the back side. honestly if you already have a template, it would take no more than 5min to do the switch covers.

kenchan 07-12-2010 04:25 PM

NewYorkJon- i think we should talk about the wrapping techniques on the 3M NiDoc thread and not on EvoR's door cover thread. :D

NewYorkJon34 07-12-2010 07:35 PM

Lol, I was thinking we could talk about the vinyl in the stillen supercharger thread next, j/k. Evo-R good job making these unique CF items
