If there is enough interest, I am contemplating also just making a harness bar that will not be a four point design, something that will just work for mounting the five and six point harness belts (without the over head rollover halo bar and rear kicker bars).

Stay tuned for more updates...... (maybe I will make another thread when I have more to share)

Scott - I am defintiely interested in just a harness bar ... only issue is for you to determine if it can mount high enough for the angle for belts to pass over top of seat back at 15degrees or less from horizontal so I can use my HANS device - not a critical issue, but an added benefit if possible.

Yes, ^^ you are absolutely correct. That is what we are in the process of determining.
If we can get just a harness bar to meet our standards and be proper fitting, properly braced, work with the correct angles, etc than we will make just the harness bar as well for those of you that do not want or feel they need the full 4 or 6 point cage.

I would want a 5-6 point setup. I would love to see how this would turn out.

Scott was working on my 370z initially. However, after butting heads in many issues and with a pre given deadline of 2 weeks which actually went longer then a month uncompleted, i decided that pulling my car out of this project was the best decision.

Well, I apologize for the delay in updates, guys. Just bad timing on our part....
Having a customers built motor, twin turbo project going on right now, SEMA show project cars, along with a couple other more pressing projects, all combined with the travels of my personal racing/ testing job, and also being a little short handed at the shop lately.... We just haven't had any time to finish or even get back on this cage and harness bar project.

Honestly, the 370Z is one of the hardest cars we have ever had to make a harness bar/4 point cage for (especially a removable one)! The lack of room and complicated angles make it a little more difficult than most any other car. Just bad timing for us, the seeming lack of enough real interest has had this project on a back burner.

Its good to see more interest in this project as of late, thanks for that, guys......
Looking forward to things slowing down here in the next few weeks and then being able to finish up this harness bar project for the 370Z.

why not just replace the existing brace bar in the rear with a just as thick but stronger, gusseted square bar with slots for racing harnesses that fit the stock interior parts.

I'm definitely interested in a replacement cross-bar that will have harness mounts.

Guys - I figured out how to remove the plastic trim around the OEM strut-brace last weekend, and will pull the OEM strut brace out and fabricate a jig next weekend.

Once this has been done, I'll ask a friend of mine who is a mechanical engineer to do some calculations on wall-thickness to establish what sized material is required. I'll assume mild-steel for the time being unless people want the lightness of Chrome-Molly steel (however it will need heat-treating post-welding which will add to the cost). I'm also assuming that the bar will be powder-coated (in grey to match the OEM plastic colour).

I'll also get some drawings done for bracketry and speak to my laser-cutter about getting mounting plates done so the bar can be mounted in place of the OEM strut brace, but with tags for harnesses on both sides of the car (remember, I am from one of those funny places where we drive on the wrong side of the road !!).

With all this, I shoud be able to give folks an idea of price in 2 or 3 weeks time. I have a slight diversion on the weekend ond 25/26 as I am scheduled to attend a track day in South Australia and it is a 1600km round trip, so not much will happen that weekend.

So, feedback requested on two things ... CrMo steel or mild-steel and powder coated or painted (anti-rust) or unfinished (cannot be chromed as a consequence of the potential for hydrogen embrittlement - is there a metallurgist on the forum who can offer advice on whether cad plating suffers a similar problem?)

Check back in (say) 4 or 5 weeks ....

As an example, the cost (US Mail Prioity Paid Parcel) for my Stillen headers to come from TX to OZ was ~US$60 ... I expect mail cost for the bar will be similar or less (on basis that weight will be less). Some investigation still to do obviously - I'll post details as I get them.
