It takes not much heat. So i guess blow dryer would work. I used a heat gun. It's faster and easier to control. Just make sure you don't pull on vinyl too much while it is in the soft state (hot). The vinyl would stretch just a tiny bit in a certain spot and create minor discoloration. unfortunately, I found this out the hard way. I have a little bit of this issue on my roof. But I am not going to waste 150 bucks worth of di noc and redo it though.

By the way, I didn't have to use any heat for the pillars. I only had to use heat on the roof installation.

"Rice Out" I am offended. lol

kenchan 06-29-2010 02:15 PM

i dont have this exact sheet, but i have something similar that shrinks and adheres with heat i bought long time ago. it's just a simulated CF.

im going to make me a cutout for the steering wheel volume up/down trim. :p it's a small triangular shaped thing that looks out of place without some kind of trim.

I really like this!

Picture updates

Finally finished the diffuser installation. It was a major pain in the bottom, literally. I jacked up the tail of the car to work on it. It took 7 hours to finish. The two diffuser winglet was almost impossible to wrap. Also cutting out the edges required lots of patience and skills.

hahaha, i already have the CF rear diffuser installed.

when you did the roof, did you remove the a-pillar/top trim off the car or did you just squeegee the end of the CF into the seals?

I was lazy so I didn't remove anything. I just cut on top of the rubber seal.

Ahhh, sounds good. That's the beauty of these overlays. I didn't remove any of the interior bits either. :)

It seems like we are very alike. I have the exact same Takara Tomy #55 Yellow Fairlady Z from your last profile picture. And I have the exact same Tomy Q-Steer in your current picture.

To the OP, B pillars look good. Nice Job

NewYorkJon34 07-10-2010 08:30 AM

I had to remove my whole Nav to carbon the metra faceplate kit. Which was a huge pain in the a$$. So since I got the hardest part outta the way, I'm def gonna be lazy from here on out, lol

Looks like rice to me, but it is a clean, professional installation. To each his own!

Yup I got a 2003 G coupe. Original owner. Gave it away to family real real cheap recently. Only had 50k miles in 7 years.

Its funny how people call anything "rice" now adays. Did they forget, the Z is made in japan. That would automatically put them in the rice category also.

You wana do another one lol?

I put masking tape on a metal 24" ruler. Layed the ruler on top of the CF vinyl and cut the edge off with an exacto knife. There is not much shrinkage. More like stretchage. When the vinyl heats up, it stretches quite abit to conform to the fins. The biggest problem is after the stretch on the fin, it has to shrink back to the regular curve.

No way in hell would I do another one. Not even for $$$$$$$$$$$$$. LOL
It took me 7 hours. I had to jack the car up and still ended up with a sore back for days. I almost gave up half way through when I reached the fins.
