This is how you put an iPad in a car
http://news.cnet.com/i/tim//2010/04/...ar_610x345.jpg If you have a passanger with you, then you're out of bluetooth, nav and music? That's not very convenient IMO |
:facepalm::shakes head:
So... the smaller less expensive, less retarded ipod touch was never an option? If you strictly use for what you said, then that should've been an option... unless you are legally blind I suppose... I'm gonna start hooking my laptop to a 40" LED TV and make my fiancee hold in in her lap as we drive... the good news is its removeable too... whenever she gets out, she can take the TV with her  |

i think i know what you mean though, show car but in stock form. that's ok but putting in an aftermarket stereo, especially a really good one like the pioneer, is not going to hurt anything unless you are planning to show in "100% stock class" which is just boring:p |

Srsly though, who cares.. You're allowed to do what you want with your investments. At least this one is removable.. I do agree you could get the same functionality from a smaller iPod, but I'm a fan of ipads, I'm posting with one
|
Alot of negativity here. OP, at the end of the day, its your car. Install it the way YOU want it. Reminds me of the first Fast and Furious movie with a laptop in the Eclipse. Also, the Ipod Touch can be had with a true GPS attachment & a GPS app.

I know this wasn't a popular mod but I'm actually thinking of adding a carputer system with my existing Nav. Although I have no problems with an ipad, I would like to be able to add stuff like ODB-II support and custom front ends.
The proclip mount looks like the only viable place to add another screen since I have the Navi already. RedNismo, now that you've had it on there for a few months, how is the mount holding up? Any problems or annoyances with it being there? My current thoughts are to add a touchscreen to that location with the proclip mount and place the system under the passenger seat or behind driver's seat. The main issue for me is being able to remove that touchscreen monitor when I need to, which I think proclip has some solutions for that. Another option for me would be to use an "ipad" like tablet that runs a real OS. There's a new one coming out called ExoPC but it's bigger than the ipad. Pros for that would be portability and I can use it outside of the car. I'm a car enthusiast and a PC enthusiast so this will kind of bring those interests together lol |
imo... i rather have a laptop mount instead... cause if its going to take that much space... laptops...
|
I think laptop or even netbook would be too big and the touch screen I think is good to access while driving. Tablet would be best I think but I'm not sold on the ones coming out.
That ExoPC slate looks nice but I'm skeptical of the performance but then again it's probably acceptable for use in the car. |

Yea probably don't need it considering I already have the factory nav. I've been taking a lot of long distance trips lately and I guess it would have been nice to have during those for the entertainment aspect along with diagnostics I suppose.
But I don't think it's a question of need lol more like I know i'll be sitting in traffic for an hour each day, this may make it a little more bearable. |

If you want diag info, get HKS Camp II.
You can monitor anything the ECU gets, and it directly plus in. |

I think that's a little too much work for me and too much room for error. The HKS Camp II looks pretty nice but I'd like more than just diagnostics. Edit: I found this guy's thread on myg37. Definitely nice but I don't have the skills or confidence to start cutting into the nav display. http://myg37.com/forums/audio-video-...peed-temp.html |

I guess ability to watch movies, listen to internet radio/pod casts, check email or search google without having to go through a small phone screen. I know I can get all these through separate means like my phone and connect a player for movies in the aux input but I would like to consolidate everything into one interface.
And also having a pc in there opens up the possibilities of whatever else I can think of. |
Its your car, put anything you want in it. If you could fit a living roomset in it, do it!

Mine sits next to me in the seat. When I drive fast it tends to move to the door, in the air and under my seat. So mounting that thing is great. Can the mount handle the G's?

Just installed an ipad mini on the center dash lid cover. Now I have ipad and I can still use my storage compartment.
Attachment 60817 It is AWESOME!! If any of you are interested, let me know. I didnt damage any leather or drill any holes. |

Velcro? nice set up though, i was thinking about doing something like this but i want to make it look stock by installing a tablet into the cubby and still being able to close it to hide the tablet |
Quote:
- Removing the cubby box completely and mounting the tablet to the back of the console - Using a 4.5-6'' screen (or even smaller) It's not the screen size that takes up the space, it's the bezel of the tablet that you want to drop in. That cubby is not big. |
I mounted a Nexus 7. Much better size.

honestly i dont want the bezel showing so it looks clean and can appear to be stock(do something like the torque app on an android tablet to have a screen similar to the GTR) |
Yes. I know what you're talking about. I've linked this photo before on several different threads. You have to remote the door, otherwise the hinges from the lid assembly take up a ton of room. The tablet in the picture could be more flush but I never got around to adjusting the mount further back.
