Seibon carbon fiber TS hood Installed
Here's the new hood I got today, still needs to be adjusted and painted, but overall I am very pleased with this :)
Enjoy http://i873.photobucket.com/albums/a...370z/027-1.jpg http://i873.photobucket.com/albums/a...370z/028-1.jpg http://i873.photobucket.com/albums/a...370z/029-1.jpg http://i873.photobucket.com/albums/a...370z/030-2.jpg http://i873.photobucket.com/albums/a...370z/031-2.jpg |
looks awesome.
Sooo is there any functionality or is it pure looks? |
Well its actually a tad heavier than the stock hood, so as far as weight savings go no its not functional. But the vents to extract air and keep the engine bay cooler.
|
how much did you pay for it
I might get it. |
Fitment looks good, just make sure you pickup some hood pins to prevent it from flying open at speed.
|
So it's heavier? Do you know actual weights of each? When you said ajusted is fitting off? Do you need hood pins or does it work with the oem latch system?
It looks great and it's the cf hood I'd buy but I'd realy want to see on in person first. |
I would paint it but that's just me. :) Looks good, though. I think the vents would look better if the mesh was black.
|
I think I'd sacrifice a pound or two for having the vents to evacuate some hot air from the engine bay.
As far as painting, I would match everything, but the slanted parts of the vents I would leave in carbon. Also I would immediately paint the metal grills in black or something dark because they are flashy right now. Looking forward to see how you paint because I'm thinking about this one too and we have the same color car. Congrats on the new hood buddy! |
I believe you on the weight. I had one on my 350 and there was only like two pounds difference. I would recommend hood pins though. I had them on mine, even though I never saw any malfunction with my latch system. Opened and closed fine with some tweaking But there were several cases on the 350z forums where this happened. Small price to pay for security.
The only thing that I hated was after having the hood for awhile, I started having small stress cracks appering all over. |

Leaving the vents carbon would accent them really well. |
Yah, looks good. Any issues with water entry through the vents? Or is your car like mine (dry day-only car? :D )
|
Thanks guys.
First off, I paid $600 out the door for the hood. You guys REALLY need to see this hood in person, its as big of a difference as hearing the fast intentions exhaust on youtube, and hearing it in person. Also I am not sure if I am going to paint it yet, I was 110% planning on painting it before I got it, I was gunna do the whole hood the same grey as my car, except leacing the vents exposed in cf, but with my color, it looks really good in person unpainted. As far as actual weight goes, I have no clue, but I am sure if you look on Seibon's website they have a weight for it. I have been recommended hoodpins by a couple people. But do I really need them? The hood is heavier than my stock hood, and it latches just as securely as my stock hood... And I will not beable to give you guys any feedback on water issues. My Z is a second car and soley driving on nice summer days. I have almost 10k miles and still have not used my windshield wipers at all yet, lol |
Well, I vote for paint. I have never been a fan of unpainted cf hoods, except maybe on black cars.

That will look really sweet  For hoodpins see if you can get a set of the aerocatch ones-- those are the cleanest looking, as they recess completely into the hood. |

If you paint it like I said and you don't like it maybe I'll buy it haha.
|
Looks great! I like it. As many said, I would paint the silver grill inserts flat black. Just my :twocents: As for leaving the slanted area cf, it may or may not look good. I think I have seen flat black paint that looks good but I'm not really sure how good the shiny cf would look. I'm actually curious to see.

Instead of leaving the vents straight CF, you can fade the paint towards the vent. I've seen it on a 350Z with Seibon hood, and it looks so nice. :D

Were you able to tighten up the passenger sidegap ? I just installed mine and have the same gap, the driver side sits perfect but the other side has the 3/16 in gap
|
Very nice Reaper! Hood pins are always a pain to put in (at least for me) + i prefer to not have to cut my hood unless i had to for whatever reason. But....pins look sharp..idk. You could get a nice colorful pair that would "pop" and stand out drawing a bit more attention to the car i suppose.
|
Go with the aerocatch hood pins. I'd highly recommend them. Why risk the chance?
|
I picked up one Of these TS hoods thinking it would be "close" to stock hood weight based on feedback I have read here.
Well if stock hood weighs 16 lbs this thing weighs close to 7 lbs more! It looks great but I'm not willing to add that much weight. It's a boat anchor. I don't think I have felt a wet carbon hood as heavy as this sucker! I may have one for sale cheap soon! Lol! |

Probably sell this to someone who is less worried about weight than me. |
If you aren't painting it, at least have it sprayed with a clear coat. It comes from Seibon with a gel coat only, which will yellow when exposed to UV light for a while.

Sorry for the necro-bump.
Where can I get this hood for the price this guy advertised "out the door"? $600 (?!!) The Seibon website is asking $1020. |
I would PM some vendors on the forum here, I don't know if you will be getting it for $600 OTD but you can probably get it for a a bit less than Seibon's site.
