Well its actually a tad heavier than the stock hood, so as far as weight savings go no its not functional. But the vents to extract air and keep the engine bay cooler.

So it's heavier? Do you know actual weights of each? When you said ajusted is fitting off? Do you need hood pins or does it work with the oem latch system?
It looks great and it's the cf hood I'd buy but I'd realy want to see on in person first.

I would paint it but that's just me. Looks good, though. I think the vents would look better if the mesh was black.

I think I'd sacrifice a pound or two for having the vents to evacuate some hot air from the engine bay.
As far as painting, I would match everything, but the slanted parts of the vents I would leave in carbon. Also I would immediately paint the metal grills in black or something dark because they are flashy right now. Looking forward to see how you paint because I'm thinking about this one too and we have the same color car. Congrats on the new hood buddy! |

I believe you on the weight. I had one on my 350 and there was only like two pounds difference. I would recommend hood pins though. I had them on mine, even though I never saw any malfunction with my latch system. Opened and closed fine with some tweaking But there were several cases on the 350z forums where this happened. Small price to pay for security.
The only thing that I hated was after having the hood for awhile, I started having small stress cracks appering all over. Last edited by SPOHN; 06-20-2010 at 09:03 PM. |

Leaving the vents carbon would accent them really well.

Thanks guys.
First off, I paid $600 out the door for the hood. You guys REALLY need to see this hood in person, its as big of a difference as hearing the fast intentions exhaust on youtube, and hearing it in person. Also I am not sure if I am going to paint it yet, I was 110% planning on painting it before I got it, I was gunna do the whole hood the same grey as my car, except leacing the vents exposed in cf, but with my color, it looks really good in person unpainted. As far as actual weight goes, I have no clue, but I am sure if you look on Seibon's website they have a weight for it. I have been recommended hoodpins by a couple people. But do I really need them? The hood is heavier than my stock hood, and it latches just as securely as my stock hood... And I will not beable to give you guys any feedback on water issues. My Z is a second car and soley driving on nice summer days. I have almost 10k miles and still have not used my windshield wipers at all yet, lol

Well, I vote for paint. I have never been a fan of unpainted cf hoods, except maybe on black cars.

That will look really sweet For hoodpins see if you can get a set of the aerocatch ones-- those are the cleanest looking, as they recess completely into the hood.
