And yes... that chop looks awesome!
|
anybody finds a reputable shop with experience converting coupes into targa's keep us informed
i will flat bed my car across the country for this i had 2 1990 300zx and the t-tops were the one feature i enjoyed above all!!! |
I'd bet it would over stress the B pillars or that the hatch would blow out entirely if the the 370 was Targa'd withouot significant structural rework of the roof... there would definitely have to be some sort of tie between the wind shield and the transverse area over the B pillars. So Sunroof or T tops are likely the only chop manageable on the 370...

Targa would be sick! I am not sure how the car would hold up though

I was looking at the Z today and thinking about it, a targa top would be nice, but may to to difficult to do. TTops I think would work pretty well. The hardest part would be the sheet metal work, and the gaskets. You'd have to custom do a new headliner and maybe move the little antenna for the touring models, But all in all I think it would be totally possible for around $6k at the highest. I don't think it would cost more than that.

Hmmmm
I'm sure a reputable bodyshop could do it, but it would not be cheap. |
ok here are a few things you have to look at:
1) those with touring/nav packages must keep the roof light assembly for your bluetooth and hands free to work. 2) Removing the upper side pillars losses your window airbags. 3) Structurally you would need a roll cage. I would recommend a double center bar that "T's" in front and back. 4) There is very light bracing on our roofs and could easily be cut. The bracing is located by the front wind shield and down the center section of the roof. |

Here are some 350z pics with the targa treatment:
The grey one looks a little photoshopped but you get the point. I think the orange one is real, and if it is possible on the 350 it isn't that much of a leap to the 370z (unless there is a major support added on the new model). Someone on this forum had pics of a sunroom and said there wasn't a major support in the middle of the roof. |
this is a definit down the road project for me and i know the perfect shop to do it. they are local up here and they do the ford gt40 GTX1 cars enough said. would cost thousands.
