Hmmmm
I'm sure a reputable bodyshop could do it, but it would not be cheap. |
ok here are a few things you have to look at:
1) those with touring/nav packages must keep the roof light assembly for your bluetooth and hands free to work. 2) Removing the upper side pillars losses your window airbags. 3) Structurally you would need a roll cage. I would recommend a double center bar that "T's" in front and back. 4) There is very light bracing on our roofs and could easily be cut. The bracing is located by the front wind shield and down the center section of the roof. |

Here are some 350z pics with the targa treatment:
The grey one looks a little photoshopped but you get the point. I think the orange one is real, and if it is possible on the 350 it isn't that much of a leap to the 370z (unless there is a major support added on the new model). Someone on this forum had pics of a sunroom and said there wasn't a major support in the middle of the roof. |
this is a definit down the road project for me and i know the perfect shop to do it. they are local up here and they do the ford gt40 GTX1 cars enough said. would cost thousands.
|
you should do it and post pics
|

Just saw this today on another forum from the Z1 meet over the weekend:

It looks so much better on the 370z b/c of the way the roof line slopes down. Man I really like that alot, but with a body kit and some nice wheels would help out the look of it too.
|
Wow! I love it.

Neat, but I think I prefer the kind with the fixed panel in the middle.
|
I would do that in a second if the cost is even somewhat reasonable.
Guys are spending 3500-4k on wheels, I'd take a Targa top over that in a heartbeat.. |
The sex

its still under construction, but should be done before SEMA where it will be displayed.
|
Looks like the Supra targa I really like.

Did they add the rollbar as a result of loosing the top or just because they wanted a rollbar?

Love the targa hate the rollbar.
|
...Wonder why there are no pictures showing the top back in place?
|
probably because they are still working on the hooks and ****.

The roll bar looks terrible. First, it shouldn't be yellow. Second, it's too far forward and is now a liability if you're in an accident without a helmet on.
It also looks like they didn't do anything to regain longitudinal rigidity after cutting the top and supports over the windows. The front-rear flex will make this an unpleasant autoX or track car. |
People who cut the top off their car most likely aren't taking it to the track so that is a non-issue. I agree with you on the rollbar. If it doesn't look OEM then it doesn't belong.
|
i wonder y the gutted the trunk tho
|
Put the Targa back on when tracking. :iagree: about the roll bar.

This looks great but probably not something I would do. I would be worried the top would make noises or leak over time. Corvettes have a noise issue with the factory targa tops.
But if you are interested in giving it a try. Check out the Mitsubishi Eclipse boards. I know a bunch of 3rd gen eclipse guys did this. They welded frame support bars under the car to give it more rigidity. I think they used the convertible's stiffer frame as a template. |
This will probably add over 150lbs to the car...assuming it's done correctly.
|
If they spend the money to cut out the top I think it will be more about showing off then about trying to race it so it wouldn't matter if they add that much weight to it, right?
