Help Identify Mystery Missing Tools

I hope this thread is not redundant as I have looked through the forum, but in the trunk spare tire area there is a styrofoam overlay that has two formed depressions molded into it. Ours were empty, and we are wondering whether others actually have the tools or they were never shipped to the States? Thanks!

Hmmmm, well, one looks to be a screwdriver, and the other (I am guessing) a tire gauge.

AK370Z 02-11-2009 12:58 AM

One does look awfully close to a screwdriver shape but the other one, I have no clue. Interesting...

RCZ 02-11-2009 08:05 AM

JDM Pyrometer!

Phil Wallace 02-11-2009 09:21 AM

I checked the 370Z tech certification booklet and there is no mention.
I have another Master Tech going to training tomorrow (Thursday) and I gave him printouts of the mystery molds to inquire about.
I checked the Nissan accessory guides and nothing seems to match.

I will post if I find anything out. I'm going to assume that it is along the lines of the eye hook molds in the Altima where there is a place to put one if you decide to buy one for they no longer come from the factory with it.

SoCal 370Z 02-11-2009 10:49 AM

Thanks!

Rear License Plate Bracket

Phil,

While you are at it can you please ask why we do not get the nice black license plate holder bracket as shown on the Japanese model? Instead we are given two bolts, and license plate rub rash (Where's the justice?). Also, note parking sensors in bumper (you can see them in both the front and rear bumpers if you go to AK370Z's albums).

Yet another photo pilfered from AK370Z's many albums.

MaximumPwr 02-11-2009 04:33 PM

^^^^^ I want one of these brackets.

MC 02-11-2009 05:05 PM

looks like the one on the right is for a 10mm socket. maybe the JDM ones come with the tools and ours dont or its like a space for some accessory kit

Phil Wallace 02-11-2009 05:12 PM

Even the GTR just has two non stainless clips for the plate on the rear, no plate holder. I take them off my cars and throw them away and replace them with SS same with my plate scres from the factory.
Remember, the is the company that stopped putting the info plates in the engine compartment to save .40 per vehicle.

As far as the parking sensors, I'm sure they have to leave something for future models to have...

I can send you some body shop clips that you can fire thru your bumper to get the same effect<jk>

Phil, I was at least hoping for some titanium clips if I have to settle for less. ;)

Phil Wallace 02-11-2009 05:36 PM

All us Z owners are always trying to shave weight.

Try driving a TT in the summer with the A/C system sitting on a bench in your garage to save weight.

Phil Wallace 02-13-2009 09:20 AM

OK, no luck with the Nissan training school. They didn't know...
I'm trying to push this up the ladder and get an answer, it going to take some time.

Gas Hed 02-13-2009 01:30 PM

Same deal with my '04 G 35. This is likely the remnant of an old design. Nissan is probably recycling molding tools as they can. They probably found an old tool that would work for the Z, modified it, but didn't maching away that cavity.

But I could be wrong...

ctzn 02-13-2009 06:56 PM

I noticed these when I took delivery, for a moment I thought my salesman was being shiesty by saying nothing went in there. I guess he is now vindicated.

frost 02-13-2009 07:04 PM

I wouldnt have trusted the dealer either. I would have been all crazy in the dealership "WHERE THE EFF ARE MY TOOLS?!?!?!"
Dealers, pfft, they do it to themselves.

AK370Z 02-16-2009 08:15 PM

Socal370Z, here's the official answer from Nissan USA

I believe there are regulations in some of these countries (like the Middle East) for these tools. So just to be clear nothing was left out for the U.S. customer.

Thanks for asking this question. It gave me a good reason to find out about this.

SoCal 370Z 02-17-2009 12:51 AM

So you are telling me that my Snap-on screwdriver and pliers were pilfered in the Middle East? ;)

YES! It not about Touring or sports package, it's all about the OEM pliers from Nissan that makes people "go crazy" in Middle east ;).

Supposedly, there are two (2). I might, and must stress "might," take the bloody assembly apart for a Kodak moment.

Okay I own two Leatherman's, various forms of vice grips, channel locks, needlenose, jewelers, and many standard pairs of pliers. Can someone tell or show me what the hell these pliers look like?

Strange tools are used in the Middle East apparently. Have they figured out something we haven't in the plier department? :icon14:

BanningZ 02-18-2009 09:33 AM

Like this maybe?

epod86 02-21-2009 10:55 PM

Anyone tried putting tools in the slots? you could start up a thread with the title "what screw driver/pliers will fit in the recesses in your trunk."

Could be interesting.

Edit: I keep forgetting to say that I like your "vehicle" BanningZ. That is probably only funny in very small circles like my own ;)

skydvr 08-01-2009 03:08 PM

Excuses

Mine came with the scewdriver but the "mistery tool" is missing on my car also
as long as it's not something you need like a special tool they can have it.
Nissan should be honest with the customers and not say BS like it's a pair of pliers and the US cars don't get those or the screw driver.

didymus 08-01-2009 04:33 PM

Surely there are some non-us or UK or Japan forum members?

That's a great idea, I would like to find a small tool kit or safety kit to put there, I think it would be kind of neat.

cwhid 12-14-2009 09:33 AM

If Nissan says its for a set of funky looking pliers, I guess it must be. But to me it looks suspiciously like the shape of the seat belt extender. Anyone shoehorning themself into a z wish to help answer??

look at the first pic

at the top of the foam impression you see how its widened on each side of the plier tip area

thats so you can reach into the indention with your fingures to retrieve the tool

Rickey89 12-15-2009 03:06 AM

this post made me go out and check my z in hopes of being the oddball with tools,

no tools,

im now sad

mdbrich 05-31-2010 09:42 AM

Wonder if it is some sort of lug nut key. I may have found where to put mine! or is that too obvious

tazma61 05-31-2010 11:03 AM

As said before, the left one is for a screwdriver, and I know for a fact that the NISMO versions have them, but not the other versions...

I spoke with the parts guys at the dealership, and they believe that it's a not a place for a set of pliers, but for a seat belt extender... why would they need a place to put a seat belt extender though?

tazma61 05-31-2010 11:05 AM

but, I don't think it fits... so it might really be some funky looking pliers...

LMAO... I was going to say the same thing but wasn't sure if anyone would get it.

Other option was ice pick and mini flask.
