Status Racing Seats Install

Hey so I FINALLY got my seat in today, after placing my order 5 weeks ago, with a promise that it would take no more than 2 weeks, but I gotta say I am impressed. Seat was packaged nicely, with no damage to the seat at all. Also ordered the seat with a 5 point harness which is of amazing quality. Also the carbon fiber weave on the seat itself is incredible, and is protected by 7 layers of clear coat, not one defect in this cf.

Although the customer service over at Status is shitty as hell (theres only like two people that work there, and they rarely answer the phone to answer questions and take a week in order to return phone calls) I have to say I am happy with the seat now that it is finally here. I ordered the Ring GT, which the GT is the version that is wider. Guy over at Status says its for 36+ waist size, I'm a 38" and I have to say I am uncomfortable seatin in this. Good thing I am awesome at loosing weight so give it a month and ill be down to a 34 and this seat should be perfect for me. (Just a heads up for any bigger guys out there thinking of getting BRIDE, those seats are smaller than even the regular status ring seats and I'm havin trouble gettin into this big one) BTW I am 5'11'' and 215 lbs as of now. The leather is very high grade and matches really well with the leather on the dash and around the radio/shifter. Also if you get it with white stiching it matches the cubby hole and side bolsters perfectly!

My exact order for the seat (since the awesome thing about Status is you can customize EVERY aspect of the seat and they dont charge extra for customization)

Model: Ring GT
white stiching
white logo
Black leather with black alcantara incerts

Seat was $1,300ish
Sliders, seat mounts, and sliders were $350ish
5 Point harness was $360ish

Trips 05-12-2010 11:40 PM

They Look really nice!! Enjoy them.
I'll have to wait a while before I get into changing mine.:tiphat:

travisjb 05-13-2010 12:10 AM

nice

RCZ 05-13-2010 08:03 AM

Looks excellent, what are you attaching that harness to?

LiquidZ 05-13-2010 08:08 AM

The seat looks great. I believe Stillen uses Status seats in their Targa GT-R.

theDreamer 05-13-2010 08:31 AM

Look good, just wish Status would have a reclining seat.

FuszNissan 05-13-2010 08:45 AM

Nice, can't wait to see them installed.

Ryan@IP 05-13-2010 09:13 AM

Very nice seat. The leather/alcantara combo is hard to beat! We're trying out some Status seats in the near future as well.

jnaut 05-13-2010 09:24 AM

Awesome!!

Sooo.... Grand Total: $2000~ Not bad for everything, but is that for 1 seat or for both?

:iagree: Looks sweet! I'd like to have this same setup probably myself!

Where are you mounting them is an excellent question though, or did you just have the harness draped over the seat? Cause iirc, mounting your harness to the seat itself is a BIG nono... Seat goes loose, YOU go loose?

Can't wait to see in car pics! That CF Would look sweet in a black Z...

Hey wait.... I have a black Z!!! :happydance:

I would think that's for one seat.

DRoc7822 05-13-2010 01:06 PM

Yeah im around 95% its only for 1 seat. Those seats are rediculousely expensive!!

XwChriswX 05-13-2010 01:08 PM

Err... Well then nevermind lol I thought that was for a set, that is outta my price range for a part that is more want than need atm... :ugh2:

Yea, they are a bit expensive. But, with the carbon back, they should give some nice weight savings.

kenchan 05-13-2010 02:30 PM

looks good! :)

Reaper42 05-14-2010 12:07 PM

UPDATE! Installed pics on the first page! If you have any questions about the installation or setting up the harness please ask.

And yes this was just under $2000 for JUST the drivers seat.

phelan 05-14-2010 12:19 PM

i chuckle a bit at the attachment to the rear harness...but not much :) not bad, i prefer a little more color to break it in the middle, but it looks good

well you have a whole collection of colorful pillows you bought at bed bath and beyond boring so you have no issues. :icon18:

jeffreyfranz 05-14-2010 08:16 PM

OK, you did very well. Congratulations.

Now, down to my obsession: Weight. Accounting for the seats, belts, sliders and all hardware, what is the net weight-savings over stock (non-electric) Z seats?

allenhhp 05-15-2010 04:29 AM

forst of all, nice seat!!!
it looks really nice.
I am thinking to change my seat too, but isnt there a side air bag that will give you a problem after you remove the original seat?
what did you do to take care of the computer issue on the side air bag?
I really wanna how to do it so that I can swap my seat with a recaro.
Thank you.
by the way, mine is a 09 basic with sport.

If you go under the DIY section of these forums, there is a thread titled DIY: Racing Seat airbag light fix. Itll go step by step with pictures of what to do. I still havnt done this yet, and all that shows up is a blinking stick figure with an airbag goin off in its face on the dash. It hasnt bothered me too much yet and there are no alarms.

Another side note incase anyone ever wonders this, when you disconnect the stock seat connections that are under the seat, it disconnects the seat belt entirely, so you will NOT get a seat belt light or chime whatsoever.

theDreamer 05-25-2010 04:28 PM

Reaper, going to bump this thread up, but did you gain any headroom when you installed these?
Also, do you have to get the sliders or do they make a setup which just bolts straight down? Usually gives a bit more headroom.

hmmm not really sure if I gained anymore head room. One problem is that they sent me two of the same aluminum side mounts, so I was only able to set the seat into one position, but they sent me a replacement that I havnt had time to take the seat out and put in yet, once I do I will beable to drop the seat lower. The seat has to attach to the sliders, I dont think there is a way around it at all. But I am 5'11" and I had no problem with headroom before or after (guess I just really didnt notice a difference) But I do have a slight problem with the current postion of the seat, with my thigh hitting the steering wheel a bit when using the clutch, I am hoping that with the new side mount and being able to set it at a lower position that It will eliminate the problem.

I did have a buddy of mine test out the seat, and his head was practically hitting the ceiling, but he is tall. He then sat in the passenger side (which is still stock) and said that it was equally as bothering. So all n all its the same as stock ride height and probably a little lower once I get the seat adjusted the right way finally.

I have put a few hundred miles on with the seat already, doing some long distant (hour drives) into downtown chicago as well as various car meets. And all I can say is wow I still love it. I was so serious about getting sway bars to help with body roll in highspeed corners, but with this seat it doesnt bother me AT ALL and gives a lot of confidence. And it is VERY comfortable even for an hour sitting in it, and like I said I am kinda overweight in the seat but its still A+ and has been getting better by the week now that I have been workin out. Bumps and stuff also feel weightless, this seat is VERY well made. Only issue you have to worry about is making sure "all the furniture is in the same room" when your clipping yourself into the 5 point harness (which the 5 point harness has also been very comfortable for long drives)

FireDan50 08-28-2012 09:26 AM

I'm trying to figure out how to purchase/install some seats to replace my electric seats. The difference in side/bottom mount seats is confusing me. So with these side mounted seats you have the side brackets....what do these attach to? What other pieces do you need to install a side mounted seat? Do I need to get 370z specific bases, tracks, sliders, etc? I'm looking at either a side mounted or bottom mounted sparco.

Reaper42 08-28-2012 05:38 PM

racing bucket seats need side mounts brackets, and sliders if you want to adjust

bullitt5897 08-28-2012 05:44 PM

Reaper,

How do you like the harnesses? I have two red ones I have not installed yet.

Mike

tommyguns 08-28-2012 07:07 PM

I was reading through this and just had to say "all the furniture is in the same room" :bowrofl:. On another note is there any issue with the seat hitting the door when it's closed, I have read that this is an issue with other seats.
Regards,
TommyGuns

Reaper42 08-28-2012 07:28 PM

I sold the seat a long time ago, yet I did enjoy the harnesses, edconline now has my seat and harness.

Yes the seat DID hit the door, make a dent in the material, had the seat for a lil while and although it did dent the inner door it was not wearing on the seats leather or stichings whatsoever, it is a nice quality seat.

Note this was the ring GT seat so wider seat hence why it probably hit door, other thing tho is that the seat base is outsourced by STATUS to another company, I had called that owner up to bring up the issue about the seat base needing to be redesigned to bring the seat closer to center of car in order to not dent door but he LITERALLY told me to go **** myself and that im out of luck and didnt have time for my phone call...so thats that.

seat was fantastic, probably best quality you will possibly find out there in aftermarket racing seats, only a couple problems. My seat wasnt FIA approved and not many of their products are, I had harnesses strapped to rear stabalizer bar which was extremely unsafe, and it would have been another $1800 to get the passenger seat, so I decided to sell and wait till the car got built up more before racing seats.

Now I will most likely go with sparco this winter since they are cheaper and safety approved for the track racing i do.

But for the hard parked, weekend show car owner, i highly recomend these, quality of cf is best I have seen on ANY cf THING i have ever seen before, leather is great, ablility to custom stitch, color, materials, for all no extra charge is fantastic, and for a leather carbon fiber luxury seat you CAN NOT beat their pricing.

bullitt5897 08-28-2012 08:09 PM

The amuse bar has a really good mounting point and there are a few guys who had custom ones made for their harnesses.

Amuse370z 08-28-2012 08:15 PM

The seats do look good, how much was it?

Cheaper than $4k? For $4000 i can get a pair of Bride Stradia IIs in Kevlar + Rails.

Reaper42 08-28-2012 09:13 PM

I think I spent $1900 for carbon fiber, leather, alcantera middle, custom stiched, base, side mounts, sliders, AND 5 point harness. and that was shipped to my door.

I'm just asking because I have no experience in this area, but why is strapping harnesses to the rear bar unsafe? I know something about the angles in relation to the shoulder points is an issue when mounting, but what makes our rear bar unsafe?

The bar is not designed to support a harness, it is cheap material and hollow.
Under a crash or hard brake it will bend or even worse snap.
