Default Auto Headlight Timer w/o nav settings....

So i finally went in for my first free oil change (perk from the dealership, oil changes for life) and i asked to have the auto headlight timer settings to be changed from 45 seconds to something lower, and after an hour of waiting the conclusion from the dealership is it can not be set lower then 45 secs w/o the nav. Very disappointing... i know a lot of people have asked about this but i never seen any responses from someone who has tried at the dealer. boooo

What...they should be able to adjust it with their system, might need to call a few other dealerships and see if they can or know how to do it.

Went to my dealer and they finally admitted they could reduce the "off" time down to 30 seconds but that is as low as they can adjust. They gave me the printout but I can't locate it. So, without the nav system it can be changed but not by much.

Actually you can adjusted to 0 with consult III. The way it works is that when you shut off the car the light stays on until you close the door, so when you get out and close the door the lights turn off, and that is mode 2 in the illumination delay set when using consult III. See service manual, section EXL page 27.

I was gonna ask the dealer to set it to Zero when I get my first oil change in June. Hopefully they won't say No.

How long should this take a tech and should the dealer charge to change the setting?

Well...it took a little while but got it done. Went in for a 9 month oil change and had them reset the delay to 0. It was taking a while and the Serv Mgr came out and apologized...he said this is the first Z they had done this on and the tech was trying to figure it out. After about 30 mins he came back out and said he went out and closed the driver's door for the tech so he could get to mode 2 (the doors must be closed to get to the battery save mode). Guess he was telling the truth about this being their first. Works great now. This should make the Auto mode much more user friendly.

Did you guys get this done for free? I went into OC Nissan Irvine today, and they wanted to charge me $45. I wish the headlights turned off when I opened the door...

My dealer set mine to zero seconds once you get out and close either door at no charge. They had to use the computer and took them a while but the service manager used it as a training session for the techs. Works great now.

Yep, got mine done at the dealer too. Set to 0 seconds (lights go off after the door is closed). They didn't charge me. The service writer didn't know that it could even be done. Of course, I didn't know either until I read about it here.
