Going to be working on the DEFi project this weekend. ..... wish me luck

LateralG'z 08-06-2010 10:14 AM

good luck

Good news. Installing the DEFi gauges in the center dash is possible without removing the entire dash.

They will be installed today with a lot of glue and with the prewiring done
later today. Next is the A-pillar gauge install with the sensors being installed this week.

So far it's going to be Oil pressure/Temp, Water Temp, EGT, Vacuum, Air/Fuel Ratio, and Fuel Pressure.

Are you going to do a full DIY on this install?

Zat_Zuma 08-08-2010 12:12 PM

I rather doubt it as it's extremely invasion and destructive. It's not for your average DIY'er and I'd rather not be responsible for the inability of others skill levels and to cause unrepairable damage during the install.

But I will answer any questions to help for those who have thought it through and done some research.

why do you have a boost gauge when your not boosted>?

Zat_Zuma 09-14-2010 12:59 PM

It's a vacumn/boost gauge ....... covering both bases for the future

Can you get away with the 52 MM pro sport gauges in the A pillar?

FuszNissan 10-14-2010 09:57 AM

Damn that's a lot of gauges. But they are awesome! They just look like they were meant the center gauge pod

Removing the dash requires 36 steps, all outlined in the service manual. It doesn't look difficult...just very involved. How did they install the Defi gauges without dash removal? They must have torn the stock gauges to shreds getting them out from above and then just glued everything back together. Barf.

How bad does it look having a gauge positioned between and behind the three pod gauges?

similar to some research i did a while back

I *may* have some updates, will post later if i get them figured out and uploaded.

Saw an Evo with all those gauges the other day. The most hilarious thing is…he had a fire extinguisher on the passenger side pillar, LOL…first thing I’m doing if there is a fire is GTFO!, not reach or even run around to get it.
