Burn in door panel after window tint
So upon picking up my Z from getting windows tinted, I found a dime-sized burnt/molten area at the top of my door panel up toward the side mirror. This was caused by the heat gun they used, and I had this done at a reputable shop nonetheless. The owner has reassured me that he has a guy that can make it look "95% back to normal" but I don't know what to do. Has anyone else had similar damage?? BTW my car is not even 2 weeks old, got 500 miles on it...

No. I have no issues.
I am assuming the tech was careless and hold it too close to the plastic? See how they fix it. If you don't like it, have them replace the plastic part from Nissan Dealer. |

sorry if too large... i'm new to this. Also, would I need the entire door panel replaced or is this a separate part? I wold just look at it but i don't want to open the door again since the windows are not dried yet.. |
If this were my car, I'd have them buy the new part from Nissan and install it. Seeing a 5% remaining blemish would piss me off every time I saw it.

any ideas on the price of this part? I did a quick search and couldn't find any door panel parts on internet.
some effin day. makes me absolutely regret having my windows done.. |
yah, check the courtesynissan site and get a new piece. have the shop cover it.

Tell them you want a replacement panel. Period.

i'm going to nissan tomorrow morning and getting a written estimate for replacement.
Some scratches to compliment the burns too... FYI the car has 580 miles on it. http://i966.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/IMG_0389.jpg |

BTW, should the business ultimately shaft you, feel free to start a thread stating your review of the business. People need a forum to discuss the quality of work done by businesses. |
Hope it works out for you

Thanks... I'm going to bitch about the trim piece in the 2nd picture as well... Throw that into my estimate from nissan. :icon14:

Hey my friend, same thing happened to me. The tint shop that done it is replacing the door panel. Took them a long time time but they finally came around.

The place i got my windows done was really good about making it better. I've got a new door panel on the way.

I agree with 370Zsteve;
Tell them you want a replacement panel. Period.
To me, the kicker here is that your Z is only 2 weeks old with 500 miles. You deserve to drive out with it as clean as it was when you brought it to them. Your Z is still new, not even broken in yet. You paid them for the service they provided, and they need to assume liability for any harm they cause to any car they work on in the process of providing that service. But! Don't go at them with a temper and or threats. Just be firm in your convictions. You are in the right and they know it. Tell them you are very happy and are completely satisfied with the tint job - (I assume you are) - but you've thought it through and you will only accept the installation of a new Nissan part, especially since the Z is still basically brand new. If they are as reputable as you say they are, they should understand where you're coming from, and should be more than willing to provide you with the type of customer service you deserve - ESPECIALLY since this is such an easy fix for them to do. Maybe you could try going back to your Dealer, explain the situation to them, and see if their Parts Dept. would help you out with this issue by ordering the part, and selling it to the tint shop at a discount to help both you and the tint shop get through this as easy as possible. (by the way, are you sure they can remove/replace the panel without causing more damage?) And as much as you're upset, look it on the bright side. At least they didn't take out a door or quarter panel. This is an easy fix no matter who ends up paying for it, so don't allow yourself to get too upset over this one. I am not saying to give up easily, but just to look at this from the other side; If the tint shop digs in their heels and is just a jerk about it, then you'll have to decide when it's smarter to just cut your losses and move on, because it would probably cost you more in legal fees to fight them than to have the part replaced yourself. If that happens, and because of the circumstances, your Dealer may just be willing to work with you and help you out by taking care of the matter themselves, helping you with discounts and charging you a reasonable fee. The main thing here is to not let this issue ruin what should be a great experience for you. It's not that big of a deal as it's an easy fix no matter who ends up doing it. . . . . |

If they are reuptable, they will replace what they damaged, without any hassle.
The guy that installed it screwed up, plain and simple. It's not hard to install tint. |
wow that looks horrible, do not let them even attempt to cover it up get new pieces.
