Thoughts on Altering Color

I've been looking at 370Z's since 2009 (quite jealous of you guys that already have one)- last year wouldn't have made since but this year is looking good so far - at the top of my list currently is a Touring 6MT with Sports Package and a few basic dealer add-ons. What I really want though is a unique color to make her stand out even more. I've been taken by some of the articles on the Zele 370Z and really like the color scheme they have (and the aero effects aren't bad either):

So what I'm thinking is getting the car in Magnetic Black and then having it painted (was actually inspired by Motoextreme since he painted his new Nismo) - it's tough to tell from the pics but the roof of the car is actually black and I think having the engine bay black would be nice as well with the orange effects all around. What do you guys think of this and do you have any other suggestions that might make more sense?

Of course, the minute I do this, Nissan will make LeMans Sunset Orange the special color for 2011 replacing the Dark Cherry from 2010. :rofl2:

Thanks!

Quality paint jobs are NOT CHEAP.....Expect to pay $5-10K for a really good job.

:iagree:

The body kit is insane also...just wondering if you are limited to using their exhaust with the kit. $$ though...

I've sought out a very good shop in the Tampa area and the initial quote comes in right around $5k so that lines up with you (at the low end anyway).

I'm really interested too in my choices for colors - the top pic is more in line with what I want whereas the bottom pic looks more like a Solar Orange. I want something with a coppery hue to it.

Found a better shot from the top showing the black roof:

Looks awesome, love the color. If you have the cash, why not?

That's a great looking color! How about vinyl wrapping the hood and roof matte black or carbon fibre? If you ever get tired of it, you can just peel it off?

im in love with orange, I hope to god the next iteration Z car will come with it, I like the sunset pearl color that the newer eclipses have, kind of a dark reddish orange, looks amazing in the sun.

Would you leave the underside of the hood black or paint it orange as well?

I wonder if that color in person looks like that Orange unpopular color that they made for the 07 350Z.

I understand trying to be unique, but $5 to $6K in color change. For that money you can do a lot of other stuff to make your car faster and stand out too.

That was what I call Solar Orange - its a flatter color with no sparkle - I'm going for something a little different than that.

I plan on doing those too. ;) Probably live with the black until it no longer suits me. I guess we'll see how long that takes.
