Project: Nismo

So I purchased my Z before the nismo came out. I love my car, but immediately fell in love with the nismo body, so i decided to do the conversion and post the results. I didn't post this in the nismo parts thread simply because it got so long that finding useful info in it was becoming difficult.

WANTED: If anyone with a Nismo plans to get a aftermarket spoiler and would be at all interested in selling their stock Nismo spoiler, I am VERY interested. I know this is a longshot but send me a PM if you are!!

This is the front bumper. All of the pieces came on different days.

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...16175941-1.jpg

Pulled the stock front off to do a test fitment.

Test fitting rear.

First page of list for ordered parts...

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...19205139-1.jpg

Second page of parts...

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...19205047-1.jpg

Third page. You'll notice 2 parts returned...this was support bars for the front and rear which the dealership insisted that I needed (which I knew i did not) but decided better safe than sorry. Sure enough, they turned out to be EXACTLY the same ;)

Also, the under engine cover that connects to the front bumper is RIDICULOUSLY expensive. It retails for $1168.88 which i payed net cost at $935.10. It was the single most expensive piece. More than both bumpers combined. I'm still waiting for it to come in. When it does I will post pics of it and if anyone on here can fabricate one, let me know. I wouldn't mind making duplicates of it for other people looking to do the conversion on the forums here.

Also you'll notice that I haven't ordered the Nismo Spoiler. This is because it is over $2000 which, after purchasing the under engine cover, I was not quite willing to do....yet. When I do finally do it, I will post pics.

I Will keep posting pics as more gets done. Just painted the bumpers and side skirts and will post pics of them on Sunday when I get back in town. Let me know if you have ANY questions.

Part Numbers:
FBM23-1A47H (Front Bumper)
HEM23-1A47H (Rear Bumper)
G6853-1A31H (Side skirt)
G6852-1A31H (other Side Skirt)
H5249-1A30A (Bracket - this is used in the middle of the rear bumper. It is different than the stock bracket)
G5892-1A30A (Under Engine Cover)
F3845-1A30A (Front inner wheel well liner for one side)
F3844-1A30A (Other side - Without these there is a gap between the sides of the fron bumper and the inner liner of the wheel wells)
76882-EG01A (Replacement clips for the side skirt - from experience on other vehicles, these break. I got these for backup :P )
F2026-1A47A (Lip for under the front bumper)

:UPDATE:

New Pics! Got the front bumpers on for a good test fitment with the new wheel well liners for the front and found more parts were needed.

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...3-24115437.jpg

You can see the gap between the front and rear bumpers and the wheel wells. This is where the protectors need to go which I just got ordered this morning. Why Nissan didnt just make them as part of the bumper covers is beyond me...

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...24115505-1.jpg

these are the 2 brackets for the rear bumper. I've had a lot of inquiries about this part. You'll notice that the nismo one is shorter than the stock one. This part hold the bumper and is located in the middle of the back bumper.

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...3-24115606.jpg

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...3-24115421.jpg

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...3-24115404.jpg

Here are the two bumpers painted. The side skirts didn't turn out as well as I wanted so I sanded them down and am repainting them today. Also, I need ideas for how I should badge it! Stay tuned for more pics!

:UPDATE:

Got pics of the side skirts! Project is getting close to completion!

Wow, that's a lot of work and money! Would it have been easier and cheaper to just trade your Z in, take the hit and get the Nismo?

Thano 03-19-2010 09:26 PM

Easier? Yes. Cheaper? Debatable... If I can fabricate the under engine cover and send it back, then i'll come out a lot cheaper. Plus, I can do all the body work/painting

Snakes709 03-19-2010 09:30 PM

I'm doing this same thing. Would you be able to write out in a post what each part is, the picture cuts off what exactly it is.

Edit: By the way, not sure if its legit, but they have the engine under cover for $450 on ebay.

Thano 03-19-2010 09:45 PM

Edited with part descriptions :tiphat:

ducky 03-19-2010 09:52 PM

sound like alot of work and $$$..i do want just the rear bumper though..how much total did you pay for the rear bumper? and did you need any other parts to fit it? or it fit perfectly without any accessories that needed..

Thano 03-19-2010 09:55 PM

"Genuine Nismo Z Front Bumper Diffuser: 09 370Z"

I'm assuming that is what you mean? If so, that is the front "lip", not the cover piece. :(

Snakes709 03-19-2010 11:18 PM

I orderd the nismo kit from Godspeed. Once its being shipped ill order a few parts from the dealership, defently not getting the undercover...lol. What exactly is F2026-1A47A (Lip for under the front bumper)?

kevin.z 03-19-2010 11:34 PM

i thought you cant order nismo parts from dealers. how did u get yours?

jmlenz 03-20-2010 12:01 AM

I have the rear Nismo fascia on order from Z1. What is that rear bracket that you say is in the middle of bumper? First I've heard of that. The other guy that installed this bumper made no mention of it. Also, you are going to need the "protectors" as Nissan calls them for the rear fender liners otherwise you will have a gap back there too.

Thano 03-20-2010 05:47 AM

That's what i thought, but when I checked the dealership said that the part number is the same. I guess ill have to go back and bust some heads =P

Thano 03-20-2010 07:05 AM

The front diffuser or chin is what I commonly see the lip being called. Basically goes under the front bumper.

The bracket for the rear is basically a support piece. Ill post pics of the regular bracket and the nismo piece side by side when I'm back in town Sunday night. It's probably not a REQIRED part but I'd rather have ikt than not

Snakes709 03-20-2010 10:10 AM

Well if it isnt to expensive ill get it, but paying $1000 for a under cover...screw that, all it does is keeps the bottom side of the engine clean. I would rather get under my car every week and clean the engine then pay that much for a piece of plastic.

6spd 03-20-2010 10:36 AM

what is this "under engine cover" on the nismo?

same as it is on the tour/sport, except the nismo is a few inches longer i think.

6spd 03-20-2010 01:18 PM

you mean the shield underneath or the front spoiler?

Snakes709 03-20-2010 01:47 PM

the shield underneath. That piece of plastic costs just over $1000...nissan must be on crack..lol

this is what i would have done too :)

unless you plan to keep this car forever, when it's time to sell it, it's going to be tough for you to recover the expenses you have made to make your car look like a nismo.

yup thats the one. I think its a few inches longer on the nismo so thats why it needs to be replace. But im saying screw it, when my nismo parts come in im leaving that piece off.

:wtf:

Thano 03-20-2010 09:12 PM

Yeah....might have a guy that can copy the piece. If I do and can make some copies for other people, i will definitely do that!

yeah these fender 'protectors' are definetely extra prices unique to the Nismo. I can get you the two part numbers (left &right) from Dustin at Z1 if you want. They are not the fender liners, they are seperate from those.

Thano 03-21-2010 06:24 PM

That would rock. Definately hook me up with those part numbers when possible!

Snakes709 03-21-2010 10:53 PM

I called my local dealership. Those pieces that add onto the fender liners or "protectors" as they call them are $68 cdn each...probably the cheapest part on the car...lol

SE 03-23-2010 02:38 PM

whats your total so far?

Thano 03-23-2010 02:39 PM

Just got the under tray in and the lip. I will post pics tonight

I'm up to about 4k

Also, I need ideas on how I should badge it! Should I go silver hamburgers or the "Z" in the front middle and back middle? Should I do FairladyZ or 370Z?

Let me know what you think!!!!

370Zvetlana 03-24-2010 01:12 PM

is it really cheaper than a trade in? plus the nismo wheels cost out of the ***......

I been arguing with gf over that same thing. She thinks i should put Fairlady on one saide, Nissan emblem in the middle and Nismo on the other side. Would look nice however, i cant be hipicritical. I use to own a Cobalt SS Supercharged and a few of my buddies put SS tags on there car when it was a Cobalt LS or LT..one guy even put the body kit on it with a custom turbocharged kit and put Cobalt SS Turbocharged. I hated it, its not a really SS so dont put the tags on. So in the case of the 370z...its not a real nismo or fairlady so i dont think i should put the tags on.

I'm not doing the wheels. I like my wheels and IF I was goign to get to wheels, they would be aftermarket. And yes, a Trade-in would have cost me about 8-10k more

The shaved look is money.

Updated with pics of the side skirts! Let me know what you think? I love the nismo side skirts!

tjlazer 03-28-2010 09:48 PM

I say get the Z logo for the front, Nissan for rear. Thats what I'm gonna do.

Good pics Thano. yeah those front and rear 'protectors' are a pain and should just be part of the bumper package. That rear center bracket still confuses me. The other guy that installed this bumper didnt use it and had no problems with fitment. Could you take more detailed pictures of the bracket attached to the chassis so we can see exactly where it is and how it attaches. Thanks!

Sure thing. I'll have pics of the bracket up tonight.

Snakes709 03-29-2010 06:25 PM

any updates?

Unfortunately I can't really get any good pics of the bracket because the stock exhaust is in the way. I'll take more pics once I get my F.I. CBE installed :icon17:

Basically, the bracket attaches to the bottom center of the rear fascia and up to the center of the bumper support bar. Like I said early, it isn't a NECESSARY piece but I decided on it just to ensure the extra support.

Let me know if you have any questions!

The BlueMax 03-29-2010 10:07 PM

I would of sold mine and just bought a NISMO too much expense and trouble, the S-tune spoiler is much better looking than the factory NISMO, I thought it should of been the factory choice, although I might of modified it ever so little to give it more effect
