Default Paint covered under warranty??

Hey guys, I picked up my 370 just last week and it's awesome so far. But I decided to wash it for the first time today and to my surprise, I found several small chips on the car! There are about four small ones on the hood, a few around the fender area, and one on the bumper. Now mind you, I've only had the car for a little over a week and barely have 100 miles on it.

I know it wasn't like this before I bought it as I went over the car from head to toe before taking it off the lot. So my question is, is this covered under warranty? I'm hoping this isn't something I'm going to have to deal with for as long as I own it.

For what it's worth, it is magnetic black. I'll try and post some pics tomorrow if that helps.

I would say yes if the chips can be proven to be factory defects. Do you have any paint flaws out of sight from potential rock contact?

well since you agree that you didnt pick it up this way, you will have to prove there is something wrong with the paint.

Yeah I definitely didn't notice it at the dealership. The chips aren't HORRIBLE, but I'm just surprised that I would have any at all after only driving and hundred miles and change.

Probably happened in those 100 miles with all the dirt and crap in the road in this area. One thing you will learn pretty quickly is that that paint on these cars is the by far the worst I have ever seen on any car that I have ever owned X 100.

If you fart hard enough in the car your paint will chip.

Congrats on the purchase, the 370 is truly a great car.

However, you sold your soul to the devil when you got black. Be prepared to see every scratch, nick, and chip. Trust me, I know.

It does look amazing when it's clean though.

Don't feel bad about the small chips, I just noticed a small rust spot next to one of my headlights. Taking it to the dealership this weekend. I also have 7 deep scratches perfectly aligned underneath each other on my rear bumper..kinda reminds me of a piece of paper I accidentally brushed my butt against it ( had alot of gems on the pockets) THIS SUX! Having a black car will reveal all the blemishes

Don't try to fight the endless battle you can't win with this car and its paint---especially if black. My advice is go to the body shop, have them correct the chips as best as they can and spring for the clear bra. I got mine before I put my car on the road and I've relaxed and enjoyed the Z ever since. It's just part of the cost of ownership with this car. Someday you may hear of a class action suit brought by Z owners over this soft paint problem. It does seem that paint which chips so quickly and so easily must be defective. This theory is something like the legal doctrine of res ipso loquitor in negligence cases (pardon the misspelling, as its been a lot of decades since my law school days), which says that the facts of the incident are simply so suggestive of negligence that Nissan has to disprove its liability. But for now at least, the above is my suggestion.

+1

I'm going to just try and touch mine up and the get the clear bra. But even then, I'm sure that there will be some nicks and scratches. Magnetic black is an unforgiving beast, lol.

Unfortunately it's no defect all of us magnetic black owners feel your pain. On the bright side, MB can't be touched by any other color Z when it is detailed right, IMO.
