Default Rear Bumper Question

For a potential mod is it possible for the piece that has the cutouts for the exhaust pipes to be taken off of the stock bumper to be able to add a different carbon fiber diffuser when and if a company were to come up with one? Or is the only option going to be a whole different bumper. I added a pic just to show since I can't think of a better way of explaining this.

It's not separate from the bumper, it's one piece as far as I can tell, unless the paint is filling in the gap really good. I was going to have the guys next door make one for my car, until I checked it out.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe a great mod for a company to do...

Copy the rear bumper exactly, but leave that part open and have a carbon fiber difuser to slot in. Should not be that tough to do.... OR, heck, a company could just do the bumper in carbon fiber. That way we can just paint the bumper body color and leave the exhaust area in carbon fiber. Should shave a little weight in the process...

Yea i agree with the whole bumper coming in carbon. But again I hope it would just be OEM with the diffuser different. I'm really not into the whole crazy bumper thing, I would just like a nice diffuser sitting over some burnt Ti pipes.

^^ I agree. The more I look at the 370Z, the more I think it really does not need body kits as it looks great as is. Carbon fiber OEM style with a simple but agressive diffuser is all it needs.

That and a better lip kit. Mines was close to a nice product, but got too crazy with it IMO.

I think they might be referring to the red plastic piece in which I believe in all other markets besides the US it is used as a fog light or light of some sorts. Some one please correct me if I'm wrong.

Like everyone said, that bottom piece is part of the bumper, but Nissan gave you a nice easy to follow line to cut . I hope some FUNCTIONAL rear diffusers get made for these cars.

Since I don't plan on doing anything too drastic (besides CF lip and side skirts), I may take it to a shop and have that section (minus the fog light reflector) painted matte black.

Yea that's not a bad idea either. I agree with DDMotorsports, that is a cut along the dotted line. If nothing else find someone good with working with carbon fiber and have one made just for it.

IIRC, they do this with the Altima Coupe. Not sure why the Z wouldn't get the same treatment.

I was going to do the same with the front bumper by having the fangs and lip painted matte black. Since I'm getting Platinum Graphite, it doesn't look too bad even with a CF lip like Mine's. Therefore, I may leave the fangs alone.
