Using Jack Stand...where to contact point?
I bought a pair of Rhino Blitz Ramp then I realized the Z is too low to drive up the ramp. I have to remove the air dam, even then there is only 1/4 inch clearance and I'm afraid the Ramp will scratch the bumper since i have the clear bra installed on the front fender over the weekend. If the ramps contact the fender, it will tear the clear bra.
Now i want to buy a jackstand to hoist the front of the car high up enough so i can slide the Ramps underneath the front wheels. The question is i don't know where's the contact point is. anyone? |
Search is your friend.

thanks AK.

Not sure if it is implied but you will need your scissor jack to slighty lift the front of the car--just high enough that you can slide your regular jack underneath the dimple.
I have a low profile jack and it is good for lifting the rear without having to use the scissors. |
Just to be clear, the rear garage jack point is the differential?
|
Yes.

Off topic, but damn zmyride, I am hungry just looking at your avatar.

Can you confirm or explain in a little more detail where the front garage lift point is? It's hard to tell from the picture in the service manual and I don't want to mess anything up. Is it the dimple that faces downward in the sheet metal cover that is right in front of the lower cast aluminum suspention brace? |
it's the black cross beam.
dont put your jack under your oil pan and lift. :icon17: when you place your jackstands on the side rails make sure you have an adapter like a hocky puck with slit or piece of wood with a slit so that you dont put the weight of the car on the rail itself. there's a little hump behind there where the weight goes onto. Crap, I can't identify the black cross beam. Is there a picture anywhere to steer me in the right direction? I have searched for quite a while with no luck.
|
sorry, not black. (mustve been thinking of another car) see the SILVER brace per pwjdm's pict. behing the bottom plastic cover. you see the dimples.

Can someone circle the rear and front jack points? Diagram is confusing and people's descriptions are confusing (to me!). Rep will be awarded

Zmyride, i have rhino ramps too and i use some thick wooden boards such as 4x4s or whatever you call it to get up the ramp and it doesn't really scratch. i seen a black 370z from time to time, wonder if that was you. i'm in the sunset area.
|
Is it the large center dimple that protrudes downward in that silver cross brace just behind the black plastic cover?
|
I am putting on HFC and a CBE system. Got everything off except the stock cats. Damm those bolts are a mother f*cker!!!!! I already broke a 14mm socket trying to get the passenger side bolt loose that you have to go in from the top of the engine bay. St*t!

This should have its own thread. I encourage you to create "370Z Floor Jack Points" thread so people can find it in search |
Thread has been sticky tagged for people to find

Thanks! Looked for a while for this with no luck.
I have just one more cat bolt... Can't believe how hard these are to get off... |
This is good info to have, esp considering the orig diagram is crap!

Okay, so this weekend I'm going to put on my Evo-R side blades. How do I go about jacking up one side at a time and putting jack stands under it?

Since it's a sticky, I guess I can ask:
Since the jacks are placed center, isn't there a reasonable amount of worry involved with tipping the car over to a side? |

Better to be safe than sorry when just jacking up the under engine mount and the diff. |
Ryno ramps
Its easy to drive on the Ryno ramps without removing the front air dam. just cut a piece of 1/2" plywood 9" wide about 2 to 3' long. Stick a 2x4 block under the ply and set them a short way up the ramp. Bada Bing, drive right up your ryno's.

At the risk of having to rejoin with a new username for asking such a dumb question, how do you get a jack to the front jack point?
It is a long way from the front of the car to the jack point such that the jack is not even close to getting there, and it is also a long way from either side of the car. My excuse for knowing nothing about working on cars is that I am coming from motorcycles, where pretty much everything is always within reach. 1. Do I need an extra long reach jack? 2. Should I drive up on ramps then get the whole jack under there (the handle might still be a problem, though, as its travel would be severely limited)? 3. If I turn the steering wheel to the lock, can I get in behind a tire and reach that front jack point from the side? Thanks. |
That is an excellent question and not stupid at all!
I either drive up on some blocks of wood, or onto wood then some ramps. From there u should be able to reach the dimple (I was able to with a cheapo harbor freight 1.5 ton). Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2 |
Thanks for the info, I just got a jack and stands for christmas, and had my car up to paint my calipers.
|
I just put on the evo-r side blades.I used 2x10's to get the front up a couple inches so I could install them.My problem now is that the dealership says they can't get my car on any lift they have(even the GTR lift)so i'm going to make my own ramps from 2x12's.....and change my oil myself....thinking about carbon fiber rockers but i'm thinking they will be too low also....Car has been lowered also by the way.

I bought one of these unibody adapters for my floor jack and it works great for jacking up my Z.
Rob Floor Jack Adapter For Late Model Cars |
I have been looking for something like this so the pinch weld fits in between the adapter so its lifted correctly. But is there one that does not have that stud sticking out so it goes into your jack and is flat to fit any jack?
