cant decide on tint

I have a pearl white 370z with back interior. And Im thinking about going to get my car tinted this weekend. This is my first time tinting a car so I dont know what % to go with. What do you guys think I should go with?

I was thinking that maybe I can get away with 40% side and maybe 30-35 for the rear.

CA law : None / 70% / ANY% / ANY%

tc2587 03-03-2010 02:25 AM

Do 5% all around

Wow, 5% all around looks pretty nice but, is basically asking for a ticket here in L.A. I wish I could of done that but, I already got a ticket for my 20 % on the sides and 5 % on the rear. Luckily, he didn't notice the 75% on the front windshield. Your lucky if the cops don't care where you live. You should tint the front too if you haven't already. Looks good tho.

RCZ 03-03-2010 08:08 AM

Id say 25-35% is great. Check out that sticky though, I made that thread exactly for people like you.

Red370 03-03-2010 08:23 AM

5% all around :) cops here dont give a shyt.

Make sure you know the tint laws for your state. Depending on where you live, the locals might be hard on dark tint.

I have a white Z and have yet to tint it, but I'm thinking of doing it this year. I probably won't go darker than 35%.

Red370 03-03-2010 01:15 PM

I cant even see out of the thing, its great.

molamann 03-03-2010 01:29 PM

I'm 15% all around minus the windshield here in Los Angeles. Never been pulled over specifically for tint and hasnt been brought up when I did get pulled over. *knock on wood*

Edit: pics are in sig. Though they're taken in an indoor parking lot.

Chriz 03-03-2010 01:37 PM

Is there anything specific you should tell the installer such as the window going down when you open the door?

molamann 03-03-2010 01:43 PM

Doesn't hurt to mention it but my installer was already aware of it and I had mine done in feb of last year.

Anyone here every use or hear of anyone having problems with ceramic tint?

fullmonty 03-03-2010 02:27 PM

I have 20% on all windows but the windshield. Came out a little darker than expected but I'm pretty happy with it.

I have 30% Huper Optik ceramic all around (sides, mini side windows, and rear) and 60% Huper Optik ceramic on the entire front windshield. I love it. I haven't had any problems whatsoever and it seems to keep out more heat than the 5% carbon all around on my Civic.

ltp 03-03-2010 03:28 PM

I would recommend 35% or 40%
it is not too dark and not too light.

JB-370z 03-03-2010 05:02 PM

20% all around for sure!

Zigen5 03-03-2010 05:30 PM

I got 15% all around. Its one step above limo. 20% is legal here in Florida. They pretty much leave you alone, unless you get pulled over for something else. Me personally, I don't think its dark enough...

StLRedrider 03-03-2010 05:34 PM

30% on the sides and 15% on the rear:tup:

^^^^ This is your best combo.. I ve done 5 pecent all around!! TOO DARKKK :shakes head:.. Then Ive done 30 percent all around and the back is tooo light but 30% with 15 percent back will look the sleekest and still have the soulette look to it ;-0

StLRedrider 03-03-2010 06:21 PM

i'm not saying it's the best combo, it's just what was recommended to me by the installer of my clear bra. i had told him that i don't want something you can't see out of(what the hell is the purpose of that) and for the rear glass i went with the darkest possible without taking away from me not being able to see when backing into my garage. this is the 1st vehicle i had ever had the tint installed on and i am pretty happy with it!!!!!do whatever best suits your needs and wants, another thing the state troopers around here luv pulling you over for crap like tint too dark and i didn't want to deal with that bullshitt

It depends how much HP you want to gain. the less light that can enter your car the faster it will be.:p

ncheung85 03-03-2010 09:58 PM

thanks for the input.

lucky bastard with those < 30%. those look sick. i wish i didnt lived in california. lol

well im going to go with 35% sides, 30% rear, none on the front. usually i drive this car during the night when all the popos are out. hopefully it wont attract any of them.

one question....what if u bought a new car from a dealer that already has a tint on it and the % on it is not legal for that state? does it come off the car or not?

Zigen5 03-04-2010 08:46 AM

They usually don't tint the car unless you get it afterward and want it on it. They will not go beyond illegal. Cuz they don't want to be held responsible.

feelzpwr91 03-04-2010 08:49 AM

:shakes head:here in va legal limit is 35:shakes head:

JB-370z 03-04-2010 10:47 AM

I dont like when some windows are darker than others. Not my taste.

JackCh 03-04-2010 08:14 PM

i have 5% all around in OC/LA/SD, havent gotten a ticket yet.but let me tell you something.you really cnt see **** with that tint, especially backing up in an apartment garage, get 20/25 darkest, don't get any darker then that.

Zerafian 03-05-2010 12:10 AM

your in cali so I would think nothing darker then 20% just to be safe. I have 5% but everyone in Orlando has 5% so the cops dont really care.

JJ-NISMO 03-05-2010 01:26 AM

I am getting my tint done on Saturday... 35% Llumar ATC all around. Would it be better to go 15% on the back? Also, would 30% be much different?

Since the Z has less interior light in the rear, the hatch window always looks darker than the rest of the windows especially cars with black interior.
If you like to have even darkness on all windows, I would do the hatch 1 tint lighter than the front window (e.g front & side 35%, hatch 40 or 50%)

370Zvetlana 03-05-2010 11:46 AM

one thing for sure is you want 5% in back and rear windows, no reason not to.... 70% in front, you might as well not waste money tinting. i did 20% which looks great with the 5% rear tints, but of course you dont go side by side with a cop car without rolling down the windows....

seanemerson 03-05-2010 07:22 PM

Putting window tinting unto consideration you can conserve a lot of energy by putting up well tinted car windows, affectivity ratings show a significant increase on battery and gas savings since you’re using minimal cooling or heating system with the use of windows tints. For example, solar control window tints moderates the sunlight entering your car while balancing your car temperature and capable of blocking up to 99% of UV rays. For each degree you raise or lower your thermostat, you can save anywhere from 1 to 5 percent on your battery and gas depending on where you live. Plus the known fact that well tinted windows has fewer tendencies to be carjacked, the better the tint the better your security is. You can find out more about window tints at Car Tint and Home Window Tinting Quotes at TintBuyer.com : Buy, Don?t Be Sold : 3M Hurricane Window. They provide relevant information about window tints such as its types, prices in the market, and help locate the best professional tinter near you.

Llumar ATC 35% all around.

ltp 03-06-2010 07:57 PM

Very nice and love that Nismo!

As you see 35% on 370Zs looks darker than 35% on sedans because of less sun lights getting through due to smaller windows and the height of the Z.
However, it looks great and not too dark on your car since your car's color is light.

I didn't want to create a new thread. I finally got my car tinted today.

One thing I notice after I back in the car into the garage, the corner by the mirror on the driver side is peeling. It's a really small. Right now its about 1/8" peeled. The passenger side is fine. Is there anyway of fixing it myself?? It would be a while before i have time to head back to shop.

I went with 35% all around. I kinda wished I went darker. Oh well.

1: Take it in for them to fix.

2: Remember where you live, the darker the more worries about getting pulled over and the darker the tint the harder to see backing up in dark conditions. Just my opinion.

fullmonty 03-27-2010 11:59 PM

I went with 20s and it came out a little darker than expected

Viera 03-28-2010 12:11 AM

I initially went with 35% all around, but I will be getting them redone with 20% in the near future.

370Z JT 03-28-2010 03:31 AM

I got 35% on my pw w/ black interior and I think it's too dark. Shoulda went with 45-50%.

specblue02 03-28-2010 02:26 PM

I just got mine tinted today as well actually over in Jersey. 35% 3M Color stable all around and it looks great. The issue you have with peeling...the guy that did my install didn't cut a piece off the bottom by the door jam where the window moves up and down but he wrapped that around the edge of the window to prevent exactly what happened to you. He did it on both doors and pointed it out but had he not pointed it out I would not have noticed...it's below the black piece on the door but he said that will keep it from catching an edge and peeling off. The guy who did my tint I have to say did an amazing job and the tint looks FACTORY...I have a monterey blue and front tint is illegal in Jersey but it looks so clean and since the color is a "wow" color he said most people will focus on the color of the car and not the windows being tinted.

Jamaica 03-28-2010 03:44 PM

I went with 35 and I wish i went darker.
