Carbon Fiber Roof Help

Dear Nicholas

"Hello again. about Carbon roof, would you kindly give as your feeling and how much you would recommend?

We might change our prices on few carbon parts in near future including the roof. We don’t know yet and we don’t know how much we can go down, but would you please let us know how much is reasonable price?

Please note – this carbon roof is not just a cover. You have to chop your roof off and attach it with your own trust factory.

Thank you"

i need some opinions

i was going to get a CF roof cap but this is just better for my plans for the Z.

phelan 02-22-2010 12:58 PM

wait, what? a company's asking you how much they should market their roof replacement for?

...i've got a bad feeling about this...

then again, i'm not on the market for a carbon fiber roof replacement, so someone else can have their say.

racerxj17 02-22-2010 01:00 PM

that letter reads like spam to me? i wouldnt put my dollar on that one.......

USAF-Z 02-22-2010 01:01 PM

its from Hiro Yoshimoto from ZELE Performance Co

phelan 02-22-2010 01:03 PM

...okay, now i'm amused, how/why is a Zele representative contacting you for pricing their components?

USAF-Z 02-22-2010 01:05 PM

this was their first email

"
Dear Nicholas

Thank you for your inquiry.

Yes we do have R35 Carbon Fiber Roof. You will have to have somebody who can adhere it on the roof.

It is 720,000JPY excluding shipping.

Please feel confident and let me know for any more information.
"
that comes out to 7,827.12 USD which is fukin ridiculous :shakes head:

FuszNissan 02-22-2010 01:07 PM

Is it a direct replacement, or just an overlay?

phelan 02-22-2010 01:07 PM

it's Zele...how did you not see this coming? their 370Z body kit is amazing, but holy #^!@ expensive.

i don't get it though, the first e-mail you're talking about is for an R35 CF roof, then you went to a Z...?!

hey lou, read:

it is a direct replacement. i plan to have a CF: hood, A-pillar, roof, trunk, and spoiler

i saw that ZELE had a CF roof on http://www.370zblog.com/wp-content/u...-zele-z-10.jpg but it wasnt on their website to be sold. so i contacted them

FuszNissan 02-22-2010 01:09 PM

At that point I would just make a targa 370Z!

FuszNissan 02-22-2010 01:10 PM

Just paint your roof, and save the money.

theDreamer 02-22-2010 01:10 PM

That does not look like carbon fiber on the Z in that picture (the roof).

USAF-Z 02-22-2010 01:10 PM

if hes asking me then i have to give a num back. i was thinking along the lines of 3k.... sound resionable . im willing to go up to 4.

phelan 02-22-2010 01:10 PM

that's not CF, unless it's a new development, the Zele 370Z does not have a direct CF roof replacement.

R35 != Z34, my guess is someone got confused midway through that e-mail.

USAF-Z 02-22-2010 01:12 PM

no offence i dont want to be like a honda owner and have fake CF or paint it black. i have to do the Z right

bullitt5897 02-22-2010 01:16 PM

I would go back with a 1.5k - 2.5k offer. It is better to aim for a lower number and negotiate up from there. it is almost impossible to negotiate down.

Paint is fine, carbon fiber overlay is not.
Doing a solid paint job will look fantastic with other carbon fiber parts, what color is your Z?

FuszNissan 02-22-2010 01:21 PM

I am not saying a cf paint. Just a matte black or gloss black paint job.

im in the united states air force and am stuck in england where they dont sell nismo and if they did it would be RHD. i will be coming back to the states with 30k. 16k-20K cash for down payment. i am just doing all the necessary research now. and the only color i will settle with is PW. i already found a company to powder coat the rims. along with the viper system.

...okay...just from first glance, why are you purchasing HFCs AND RTPs? you are aware that only one of those goes on the car...right?

in fact...where are you getting these prices? 9k for a TT is pretty low (except the 7k dvd TT kit, which is one in a million chance)

CF roof for $650 better be for an overlay, you will not get a direct replacement for that money. you'll spend more cutting the poor Z apart than that. also A-Pillars, where you getting those?

not trying to bust a bubble, i'm just curious. some of those numbers, i'm pretty sure, will be much higher than you are calculating.

Where's the labor cost? Don't forget labor....unless you're doing all this yourself...which would be amazing!

USAF-Z 02-22-2010 01:38 PM

and your right it is an overlay. i know you all might think it is stupid and a waist of money but i cant have a flow of carbon from hood to trunk with a gap on the roof just painted black. i would rather just have an over lay :shakes head:. that is why im trying to get the real thing instead of an overlay

Wow...cool deal!

theDreamer 02-22-2010 01:40 PM

The issue you will run into is a carbon fiber roof is a lot of R&D, and no company has wanted to jump into other than just a wrap style overlay setup. So it is real carbon fiber but it just sits on top of the stock roof.

the only thing i would have with that is would anyone be able to tell. and another thing i got the price from the overlay from this guy
http://www.the370z.com/spawn-aerodyn...tml#post144264
i have asked numerous times and have waited 3 months for a good pic of the roof on the Z but i have gotten nothing so far.

Yeah Spawn Aero = bad, he is gone from the board.
Not sure if anyone else is going to do a proper wrap setup for the roof, but if the carbon fiber is done properly no one will ever know.

:eekdance: -,- can i ask why and you guys just saved my ***.. if anyone knows of a overlay please let me know

phelan 02-22-2010 02:14 PM

lol Spawn...you never got pictures because it never existed in the first place. So...right now, I'm guessing you're aiming for all of the Seibon stuff.

FYI, Sunline Racing has a CF overlay. Sunline Racing - Carbon Roof Cover

I'd wait a bit...$900 is a bit much to stomach for an overlay. I'm sure that more overlays are coming soon.

JB-370z 02-22-2010 05:22 PM

I cant believe it would cost 7,000+ for a roof in carbon. Zele needs to be shot for even considering such a price. For Gods sakes its a Nissan!
Oh yeah stay away from spawn!

bullitt5897 02-22-2010 08:29 PM

BTW 1.5k-2.5k is not lowballing... its double or triple the price of an overlay. Paying 7k for a product that honestly only costs less than a grand to make is ridiculous! CF is not that expensive and I know how the industry works you can buy a certain set of recaro seats for our cars for 3k for the set and that exact same set of seats for the GTR cost 10k...

now 1.5-2.5k is a fair price in my opinion. and like I said its easier to go up than it is to negotiate down.
