was trying to take off the gauge hat without breaking the brackets but
not knowing where they were clipped, i broke them off.

considering i would need to tear off the brackets on all 3 of them i decided
to abandon doing the CF sheet on them because the last thing i need is
rattles from the dash. these things cost a whopping $54 each.

i used some mounting tape and placed it back on the gauge. it's back on
there perfectly so cant tell it was ever removed but be aware where the
posts are if you are planning to remove them.

btw, i removed the earlier post with illustration from the service manual for the gauge hats because the paw and clip locations in the illustration are not accurate.

That does look a lot nicer. That's some pretty trick stuff... looks like dry cf.

I would be interested to see what it looks like sprayed with clear.

Yah, you'd need to remove the piece off the car to clear coat it separately. The material forms with heat so not sure how that affects bonding with the clear on a hot day(?).

To me the convenience of overlays is it can be applied without trim removal.

Going to be working on the HU trim today...since I can't use my heat gun (HU has touch screen and don't want to take apart my stereo again) it will not be wrapped around. Will see how well it turns out. I have my doubts but if it sucks I can always peel it off.

Dang, I can't get a correct outline of these two trims. How were you able to get the correct cutout? Can you scan your cutout?

Hahaha.

What I do is place a piece of paper over the trim and use a stylus and press down, get the basic outline. Then it's all trial and error from there. If you cut too much, just use masking tape on both sides and retry.

The HU one is pretty hard to do... I'm not done yet on that one.
