What is everyone using for headlights?

My headlights are starting to look like crap. I am wondering what everyone is using these days. How are the Morimoto's holding up?

Da Flash 03-17-2025 12:12 PM

My Morimoto's are only a year old but, they look as good as the day i installed them!!

OptionZero 03-17-2025 01:50 PM

Went with Lightworks and got a very mild upgrade - painted housings, shroud, and halo rings

They can do ALOT more, and have been around for a while as a quality retrofit source.
I suspect they can custom do anything you want depending on your budget and needs

they're on the east cost (NJ), so shipping will be alot easier for you than me cross country.

I am tempted just to buy stock ones for the 2015 and up Nismo cars. They have the inside painted black. They are just expensive. Ugg!!!

Spooler 03-17-2025 08:06 PM

I guess I will just get the Morimoto. They are way cheaper than stock ones. My lenses are done. I was hoping for some more ideas. I will wait around and see.

Headlights

I put the Morimotos on my 2017 roadster a couple of years ago. I think they look much better than the originals--I especially like the sequential turn signals. They have integrated DRLs, which, if your car already has separate DRLs, might look a little weird.
The Morimotos are much brighter than OEM as well. The overall look modernizes the car. Very pleased.

I don't have DR's since my car is a 2013 Nismo. I don't know if I would even hook them up. Brighter lights I need.

Zerkster 03-18-2025 08:45 AM

I have some Chrome bezel ones pulled from a 14' nismo with 5k miles. Id be happy to send you some pics if you want.

I have Chrome ones now. I want to dump them for the black ones.

If you want black ones, you could just send them to Yunique/OneEighty/etc. to have them open and paint them, then replace the lenses; if you're overall happy with their current performance, you could just swap to STI-R projector lenses.

Your car would look great with black housing headlights for sure.

Cheapest option is get lucky with used OEM ones on EBay. May need to buy left and right separately. Be real picky+lucky+patience will get you a good pair for 8-900 bucks (all mounting tabs present, no hazing with minor clear cost scratches, lens not visibly burned)

The one sold under Morimoto label is nice if you like that style. I think you can find ones for non US market that eliminate the orange reflective side marker. Downside is they are not serviceable (as in can’t change bulbs).

Sending in the unit for repaint would be great. I would certainly upgrade the projector at the same time. Endless options in aesthetic too. I would’ve done that if shipping doesn’t cost so much. Although I’m weary of re-sealed lights, reputable modifiers + cover-parked non-daily toy should be a safe bet.

I am leaning towards just getting the Morimoto kit (All of it). If I change my mind afterwards, I can send the old ones off to be redone.

Spooler 03-19-2025 11:11 AM

Got the Morimoto kit ordered. Headlight, side markers, and taillights.

I read that one. Still got the Morimoto. If I don't like them I can send my stock ones off to be modified.

Spooler 03-20-2025 11:54 AM

I already have the lights in my hands. 1 day shipping for the win.

Spooler 03-26-2025 08:52 PM

Got the taillights in and the side markers. I am impressed. They fit really well. I was not expecting that. I will get to the headlights this weekend.

KMO-II 04-02-2025 11:24 AM

I used this kit , and man they look brand new !! 3M Auto Restore and Protect Headlight Restoration Kit, Use On Plastic Lenses, Headlights, Taillight, Fog Lights and More, Includes Sanding Discs, Headlight Clear Coat Wipes, Foam Pad and Glove (39194)

Spooler 04-02-2025 12:02 PM

Got the front headlights installed last weekend. They fit very good. I am happy with them. I didn't hook up the daytime running lights. Didn't have them before and still don't want them.

You are in my thoughts and prayers with Mori.'s "quality". I'm on internet forums for the Z maybe 2 hrs. a week max. and have come across dozens of complaints on the headlights. Everything from electronics issues to lens deterioration in less than 2 years!!!

I then found owners tracing the source of the lights to Temu/Aliexpress ads with traces that Mori. rebrands these cheap products as their own!

Sure they'll warranty the electronics within the warranty, but you have to send yours in for evaluation. So plan on much down time and the fun associated with their R&R.

I HIGHLY recommend ceramic coating the lenses like I did with their replacement units for the OE lights. I did so immediately after reading of accelerated UV damage even through it's a garage queen.

Definitely keep your OE lights as backups as intended, hopefully you won't need them but the odds aren't good. I HIGHLY recommend Unique LED as Leo stands behind his work 100%!

Best of luck!

Leonardo (Yunique LED) does great work. Just got my headlights back from him not too long ago.

redondoaveb 04-22-2025 07:58 AM

Yuniqueled ftw

:

It’s Co-Plus out of Taiwan. It makes aftermarket head and taillights for whole bunch of different make and models. Morimoto is just the sole US distributor.

Yup thanks for the backup doc.!

My heartburn is Mori. calling them their own rather than stating Coplus Brand Lighting.

Nice!! You're in great hands. I had a issue and had to send one back. Leo paid shipping both ways, fixed for free, and put it to the front of the line!
