Famous Nissan Front Seat Click Problem
The Altima coupe is beset with a funny problem. When the car goes around a curve and the the driver's weight is shifted from one side to the other in the seat, a click is often heard under the seat. This has nothing to do with backward/forward adjustment or any other and my understanding is that there may be a TSB on it. It is often discussed in complaints posted on the Altima Coupe message boards. My Z has only 550 miles on it. Weather was nice here today, so I took her out for her first "spirited ride" of the break-in process. Sure enough, as I rounded a curve to the right, the click sounded. It happened twice this evening. It's no big deal and I'll probably just ignore it, as I have on the Altima. But I'm wondering if it has yet appeared in any other 370Z's.

The 350z has a similar problem and so does the 370z. Since I'm familiar with the issue I don't let it ruin my enjoyment of the z. There may be a fix now or later.

NOPE, have not heard that in my old 350 nor my 370. I also had a 99 Altima.
Sometimes your mind set for a noise or any other annoying thing makes you feel it or hear it even if it doesn't exist, dunno... |
i have that problem on my 370, and yes, there is a TSB out for it
|
I've got it on my seats. CLOTH, not leather. Mostly on the right side, near the middle-back.

My touring seats creak when I get in and out, but I don't notice it while driving, mostly coming from the bottom seat cushion on the side. Anyone else have this?
|
Mine clicked around 500 miles for awhile and then magically went away. I hope I just didnt jinx myself, b/c it was annoying.

No clicks. How much do you guys weigh? Imma 170 lbs.

This is the TSB, NTB10-010 date:January 19, 2010.
2009 370Z; SEAT POPPING NOISE/SLIGHT MOVEMENT FROM FRONT RIGHT SEAT CORNER applied vehicle: 2009 370Z left side manual seat only applied VIN/date: vehicles built before JN1AZ44(**)9M410159 / 26-Jun-2009 |
never heard it but I weigh bout 155 on a day with lotsa oreos and 2 tall glasses of milk. Its not a safety issue is it? I remember on clubrsx forums the replica recaros were doing something similar and in a bad vehicle accident, well most of the drivers aren't around to tell the story.

I have not heard any clicks yet!
187 normally and 190 after a night of white russians! lol :yum: |

oh well good thing I waited then lol

I took the TSB to my dealer (along with the other one about the stuck hatch release button issue - they fixed that).
It says: APPLIED VIN/DATE: Vehicles built before JN1AZ44(**)9M 410159 / 26-Jun-2009 My VIN turned out to be a little higher than this limit :-( (have a red '09 base AT) So I guess still no solution for me yet? And I believe the 2010's do not have this issue at all. Are there other people with production dates after June 2009 with the still issue? :-( |
I had the seat clicking in my 06 and Now the 10. It doesn't bother me. I rather have this then scratches from the dealer.

if anyone's still scratching their heads..i was able to fix this today without a new starwasher. i just pounded the stock ones in further. no popping noise, no movement. it was making a little bit of noise when the car was new, but lately (after 3yrs) i could sort of almost feel the seat bottom shifting just a hair so decided to fix it.
check tsb on what part is involved. basically it tells you to get 2 new starwashers which are like $2+ each and where they go. ck service manual on how to remove the seat and the dials. you can do the work inside the car so you wont have to undo the SRS harness (no need to unplug battery which is a good thing). total time... probably 1hr tops including vacuuming and nourishing the plastics afterwards with Prima Nero. |
