Dark window tints + v1
Anyone who has dark tints with a quality radar such as the V1 notice any decrease in performance on the radar? I know the manual for the v1 states that dark tints may decrease the efficiency of the rear pointed sensor.
I have 30% sides & 20% rear (none on the front) and have not had any issues so far, I also have the ceramic tint stuff which is suppose to not cause issues with any signals.
not familiar with "ceramic tints" could you clarify? Any price difference?
Ceramic tints as I read are also suppose to keep other rays out and help cool the car more. It is a bit more, but the price is dropping slowly.
ceramic tint, as you might guess, has no metal. it is MUCH better at heat rejection than a metallic tint. supposedly it's derived from the same crap they use on the space shuttle, but i have no idea as to the truth in that statement.
upside? there's no metal, which means no interference with your electronics. and the car is definitely cooler with the ceramic tints. great for cars with black leather interior hahaha downside? it's helluva lot more expensive than the metallic stuff. dreamer, not sure if it really is dropping, i haven't seen it yet. there are probably other options besides metallic and ceramic, namely (and based on the shop i go to) carbon dyes, but not too sure about those. |
Well from the price drop I was told it start at 600-700 the first year or so it was out, I paid around 400 for mine and I was told by some shops will do the Z for 300-350 now.
argh 300-400 for tints, saving for a shortblock right now
Yeah mine was estimated at 400-450. Got it for 120 though. It's all about who you know!
damn I'd go where you guys are but Texas is way to far....

I had on my 350Z 30% Front Wind shield ( entire thing) 5% Sides and Rear, and didn't see any negative effects on my V1. Worked like a charm.
wow 30% lou, you crazy. i did my 240 with 50% and it was awesome. 20% around the sides and the sunroof. no issues with my Vector 985
It took some time getting used to. But I only drove it when weather was good, and in day light. I put 2k miles a year on that car.

at 50% it was almost not noticeable from the outside. on the inside it was like wearing some decent sunglasses. kept the car a lot cooler too. on the worst days you could still see fine.
glad i didn't go darker at the time now heh. |
It wasn't bad. Night time was a bitch, I would have to roll my windows down to take corners. So I stopped driving it at night.
