Some Help Choosing JDM GT Wing for the Nismo (ING? Voltex?)
Hello Z owners
So its bout time to finally choose a wing for my Nismo. I am only interested in Japanese brands so let's keep the discussion there, not really considering APR/battleaero/etc. Choices are as follows: ING +1, Voltex Type 2, Voltex Type 3/8, Sunline??, or other similar suggestions? I've done some research it looks like both ING and Sunline are both made by Voltex. Correct me if I'm wrong. Ive seen couple members run the ING wing, anyone know if the ING +1 Z Power wing is the same as Voltex Type 2? They look really similar from internet pics. Any members running Voltex type 3? I was told type 8 and 3 are the same. Seems pretty big from pics, I'm concerned about aero balance running this wing. I have 15+ Nismo front bumper and not planning to run a front splitter since I like the pure look. I'll be running low mounts on any wing I get but will this option be too much downforce? Thoughts? Does anyone actually have a sunline wing? Is sunline in business at all? Seems to be gone around NA. Also looks pretty much the same to ING and Voltex Type 2. Hoping some fellow GT wing owners & Japanese parts experts would chime in. Cheers |

Is this for aesthetics or…actual racing? Cuz i’n pretty sure a bigger win is functionally worthless without corresponding splitter. The car needs more grip in front to begin with
For looks… get whatever you think looks better. Its subjective I will just add that a big GT wing on a stock body is gonna look like ricer garbage. If you want to pull off the look I hope you have an aggressive stance and aero Example This guy, Jay, …probably the best execution of gt wing on a non-wide body street car. Not building a full race car so not interested in super big and aggressive wing, that much aero would also not work on my build.
I am concerned with looks but this isn't a stance car, I do track with it I have other track upgrades on the car. I just like the look of ing and voltex type 2 wing more than other wings and they are not as over the top as some other gt wing choices, especially with lower mounts. So I want it to look good but as well be functional because I found my rear not as stable as I'd like. I don't find these two choices particular ricey but a type 3 would be pushing it without adding something more. I've seen the above pictures and can't really tell the difference between ings and voltex type 2, hence asking if they're the same. |

Maybe you should tell us what sort of driving you’re doing that actually makes you feel like your “rear end isn’t stable”
What track What turn What suspension What tires Because when you say **** like that, it’s race car ****. Then you say you don’t want a splitter bc you don’t like the looks. See how that doesn’t make sense? Wing, splitter, suspension, and tires all affect each other. There’s no non-track driving you’re doing where you “need” a gt wing for “stability” Also, Voltex has multiple mount, stand, blade, and end plate options so you can make it look like whatever you want Again, contact Next Level performance, they sell this **** and will happily take your money to get you exactly what you want

I don't feel as planted in the rear in long straights (100+mph) and going into high speed corners. I'm still in process of tuning my suspension, I'm not running true, but I'd like to have a wing for both functionality + looks.
Just because I track with the car doesn't make it race car. The build is far from a race car and I'm trying to keep it away from a race car build. I'm only looking for a bit more downforce on the rear than stock nismo, not a ton of downforce from a giant racing wing because I know I'm not adding a big front splitter to balance that aero out, and like you said I don't think that looks good. My research suggested a Voltex type 2 doesn't offer great amounts of downforce like a type 3 or some other giant big gt wings you see on dedicated track applications, with low mounts its not going to be anywhere close to those set ups. I've seen guys in Japan running a type 2 without front splitter and canards so I'm interested in this particular model. I contacted NLP already they can get me any wing I want but didn't really chime in on the differences. |

You’re asking about minute differences in wing design and their effects on downforce but you’re not building a race car and you don’t wanna do race car things? What are we doing here?
Literally any gt wing will add more downforce than the stock wing and they’re adjustable. And since you care about looks more than pure function, I say again: Get whatever looks cool to you

Set one of those wings to Zero attack. You will still get down force. Without a splitter. At 100 mph, your front will get light. So instead of losing the rear. You'll lose the front. I have a full aero front with a splitter and canards with a Nismo wing. My front is planted, and have no floating with the rear like you described.

As far as aero goes, I'd stay away from anything made by Street Faction, Battle Aero...etc. I don't know anything about the rumor that INGS is really just made by Voltex, I can tell you that Voltex doesnt necessarily put their stuff through much wind tunnel testing. However I can tell you that companies like INGS and C-West actually run their products on Z's in the Super Taikyu series. So what's trackable? Depends on who you ask, some janky people run some janky @$$ things out there and it more or less works, most of the time...or some times your wing comes flying off down the front straight at Fontana (happened to a friend). Also if you're looking for a splitter that fits the Nismo V1 bumper, I got that covered. |

so you can't be concerned with functionality when you care about looks or vice versa? I do want performance but that doesn't mean I have to abandon design. I don't want to go hardcore race mode to build a car that I can enjoy on/off track, that doesn't mean I'm not concerned with functionality. Why do automakers care bout design at all if its just one extreme or the other like you're saying. There are tons of sweet spots in the middle that's the whole reason theres so many designs and parts to choose from fitting whatever needs.
you're mocking like you don't care about looks, then sure by all means go for full race car if you're after pure function and no form. You can have the fastest stripped out big winged race car for lap records but that's not what I'm looking for. There's a reason I specifically stated i wanted low downforce options for my particular application, not the biggest wing i can find... |
