Default Installing JDM rear fog light as a brake light

I have a 2010 roadster and purchased the Nissan JDM rear fog light. I want to use it as a 4th brake light. I notice there is a wire harness that connects to the light. I researched the install but didn't find anyone who used the original harness and spliced it into the brake light circuit. I imagine the harness goes up towards the left tail light. I read it continues toward the steering wheel where an orm fog light switch would go. Could someone guide me to a link or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

I would imagine that you want to install it like an EvoR light.

That install is the typical " run wires up into the car" install. I believe I can use the wires already in the car, but can't find anyone who has done this.

Just splice into the taillight on the driver side. Plenty of people have done it.

You can't. I attempted to use the factory connector hoping that I could use Consult III to "turn it on" but it doesnt work. We don't have the harness for the switch/button.

I ran mine as a 4th tail light and just tapped into the license plate connector for ease.

That's because it's disconnected on the other end by the steering wheel. I'm trying to determine if I can use the existing wire loom to cut and tap into the left tail light.

You will need to tap into one of the tailight harnesses. Follow the iJDMTOY DIY.

Would you want to be the first to try to simply swap your left American stalk with the OEM left stalk from a Canadian Z and see if it is plug and play?

Sure. No one has done it yet? Where do I get one?

Ok, called the local Nissan dealer here. Price is $460 Canadian dollars. Part number is 25560-1EA1E. It's one unit that comes with both the left hand and right hand stalk. Spoke with a tech who said it should be plug and play, as the harnesses (at least in the later years) between the US and Canadian models are exactly the same. He said, the fog light has fuses, not sure if they are installed in the USA model, but if not you would just have to install the fuses in the fuse box.

Great info.. thank you. That is pricey for a switch and I do want it to work as a brake light. I would consider a used switch but not a new one if I went that route.

There is only one way to get the rear fog lamp to function as a 4th brake light and that is to tap into the brake light wiring harness at the rear light using a new harness between them.
The factory wire harness at the rear fog lamp is for....gee....a rear fog lamp. To make a fog lamp requires either an easy wiring modification and a switch or swapping the combo switch with the one that is listed above. If going the combo switch swap, to be 100% complete, the instrument panel needs to come out so that an LED can be soldered in place to illuminate the rear fog lamp indicator.
There is one person on here that has done this and did a write-up on it. Quite expensive in $$$ and time to do so. But he probably has the ONLY USA 370Z with a factory rear fog lamp.

I tried tapping in to the brake circuit and it blew the fuse. I tapped into the green wire of the brake light circuit

Ok...I figured it out. This procedure is to hook up the JDM foglight as a brake light. It can be used to hook up the light as a running light too or whatever you wish. The key is that no external harness is necessary. It's already in the car.

The process is as follows:

1. Pull the trunk paneling away
2. Locate the wires going to the brake light assembly.
3. Pull back the electrical tape and expose the wires of both the subharness going to the rear and the wires running to the brake/tail light.
4. Dig in the harness and pull up the yellowish wire.
5. Cut the wire. This is the key since it runs to the BCM.
6. Join the yellowish wire to the green wire coming from the brake light. Either solder or butt connector.
7. Plug in your fog light to the oem connector.

You now have a 4th brake light without using an outside harness. The ground wire is already grounded. You don't even have to remove the tail light.
