Fly1 hoods
Anyone have info on their hoods ..fiber glass vs carbon fiber ...not really a fan of the carbon fiber look and will either paint or wrap the hood ..is there a difference between the two other than the carbon look ... is the fiber glass rough and need body work for a smooth finish vs the carbon fiber gel coat ?

CF would be lighter.

There has been some quality issues with Fly1. Do a search.

They do have some QC issues for all CF products as well. Last I heard, they were using older molds when making cf products which created bad textures and more fragile pieces when created. My set of blades from them have signs of blotching, bad weaving, and thin line cracking when being mounted.

Don’t let desperation lead you to a decision that you otherwise wouldn’t arrive at. The potential hassle here may not worth the prize here. Think twice, and best of luck. |
I may look at other options .. not desperate just gathering info...also not sure if fly1 and Zociety is the same product either ....pic and description are the same from both sites
|
FG might be a better option, if you want to go with Fly1.

AMS-GT ~ Powerhouse Amuse Spec-V ~ Varis Terminal GT ~ MCR ...can be purchased authentic without having to worry about fitment and quality issues; and you'll probably get them in the same amount of time, if not faster. |
No. Save yourself the eventual hassle and disappointment that will inevitably occur. I recommend the following:
1)Delete browsing history of anything Fly1 2)Grab hammer just in case you decide to further search Fly1 3) If you find yourself returning to their site or thinking of purchasing anything of theirs, smack yourself in the head with hammer. 4)Repeat as necessary. |
After seeing two different duckbill spoilers from Fly1 and all the imperfections in the gel coat and clear coat finish I will never buy a single carbon fiber product from them unfortunately. They do have some nice designs though.

I have a fiberglass amuse replica from them. It does the job for a track car. Would not fly on a car you cared for fit and finish on without a ton more prep though. The hood is rough around the edges, a tad heavier than stock, and not super strong in the center. If I were to do it again, I'd just run full trackspec vents on my stock hood (might still). Right now I run trackspec center with the amuse side vents.
Has anyone had the Amerihood version of the CF amuse hood? I've been wondering if that'd be any better. |
I think I have seen one member with one of those, but I cannot recall who. I'll have to try to find him.

In case you feel like contacting these people.
