Z1 Motorsports Aluminum Undertrays
 

It appears Z1 has released its own line of aluminum undertrays:

The biggest difference between this and the next most common option (Zspeed) is that there is a larger service panel that drops down.

Anyone tried this yet, or spot any big differences/advantages/disdvantages?

the only other option is made by TBW, and i rarely see that even mentioned

Prices are very comparable

They don’t have an option for 14 Nismo so I will not be able to buy one... ZSpeed cost around $350 I wish Z1 will get one out in a normal price

I've got the ZSpeed one and had no troubles using the small opening for oil changes. However, I always prefer to remove the entire undershroud. If I'm going to be under the car, I like to check for leaks and other possible issues that might not be visible with the undershroud installed.

Looks good. Mine is being partially held in place with zip ties. I think ill give the Z1 option a shot.

I heard that they are currently working on finalizing the design for the V1 Nismo's, so that should be coming out soon. No idea on pricing for the V1 Nismo undertray as of yet.

Yes, on Instagram they said they are working on v1 nismo

It's a great looking piece. I'd definitely give it a try when I upgrade mine.

I have the ZSpeed Nismo V1 since when they first came out. Mine has been bent a couple of times on the track from hitting curbs. I've beaten it flat with no issues. I say this. The Z1 is cheaper. But if you are planning on installing a splitter. Get the ZSpeed. It will give you a flat bottom with no steps.

I honesty wouldn’t purchase the Z1 engine under shroud. I did purchase the Z Speed Performance engine under shroud from Joe only because I was having high engine oil temperature on track days and this under shroud has small openings in the bottom of the under shroud to promote air flow and I can say it did help coming from the Genuine Nissan plastic under tray. I do like the openings though so I can perform my oil changes more efficiently not having to take the whole under tray off every time and it’s simply convenient. I can vouch that the Z Speed Performance aluminum engine under shroud is a very nice aluminum piece for what you are actually paying for as Rusty said before that aluminum prices are expensive. Overall quality and fitment is excellent. Thank you again Joe for doing your best to support the Z community.

I have it on my 17 nismo. It fits perfectly and is made well. I like how it has more access than the zspeed undertray. It is also made with cooling vents built in.

It does look impressive. But I am worried about that tongue and groove design between the access panel and the rest of the shroud. I would be worried about eventual looseness and rattling. Have you noticed any issues?

Their design is the same as TBW's 350Z design. Had two of them for my 350Z for 250K miles. No rattle issues so long as they're fastened tightly. If you have rattle you could line the connecting edges with speaker foam.

Only concern I have with a 2-piece design is that if you make contact with something like a blown out truck tire on the interstate, the impact will bend the plates and they wont align perfectly. Then, much later, when you run over a dead possum, the bent plate will bend more, make contact with the road, grind itself to fiery oblivion, and you'll need to break the radiator core support to remove it when you're on the side of a rural highway in buttfvck Nebraska.

Bolt the two pieces together.

I've had a TBW one on my G37 for about 4 years. It's an early design, without the center riv-nuts (it uses the cheap push pin style fastener) and it's just started to rattle. Mostly because my bumper doesn't really line up any more. I'm also not really a fan of the step from the bumper to the subframe.

If your car is an older car or has a bumper that is slightly misaligned, I might suggest the Z-Speed one that is a single piece. Mostly for the rigidity, but also for the alignment.

TBW here on OE front end. Zero issues, plenty of working room for oil change with thermostatic plate and larger oil filter.

I have the z1 undershround no noise or vibration. I love z1 great customer svc and quick shippjng

so I ordered one of these for 2015+ Nismo, which was out of stock for months before popping up recently

I got this (attached) instead.

The "Base" label tipped me off. Then i compared the front panel to the pictures on the website and they looked off as well

Thankfully, Greg at Z1 double checked all the part numbers and confirmed i got a base one instead of Nismo. They supplied a return label for a free exchange (As they should)

bottom line:
before you try putting anything on the car . . . check the label

they said that the base and nismos are on the shelf right next to each other (makes sense)

It's wierd how they package, though

I also ordered a PS cooler and Bell diff brace

They sent two packages:
Package 1: Undertray (3 panels)
Package 2: Undertray hardware + Diff brace + PS lines and bracket. No setrab core

They then said the setrab was out of stock (wierd, since a bunch of places online and ebay and such all have it in stock)

I call them earlier this week.

A THIRD package is sent to me with, presumably, the core.

Plus i got the email with the return info and stuff

Doesn't seem particularly organized imo

I really hope I don't get another email saying . . . oops, Nismo out of undertray is out of stock

I just installed my Z1 undershroud this weekend on my '20 Sport. It's a very nice, quality, piece. So far they have been GREAT with all my purchases. Thanks, Z1!

Should be receiving one for my +15 Nismo this Friday 👌 hope it’s correct, exited to install it and I’ll post back of my thoughts on them!

Z1 sent me back....the exact same parts

So i did more examining of what Z1 sent me a second time. Not only did they re-use the box from the base model version, just re-taped together...and not only did they sent me back the same faulty items...

They slapped a new label on it that says “z1 undershroud - base model”


I need a nismo version and they both sent me the wrong one but added an additional sticker noting it. Sigh

Fortunately (i hope) i got ahold of the same rep (Greg) and he physically pulled a Nismo from their warehouse and compared it to a base and confirmed again i was ...again sent the wrong parts. He’s going to ship me a Nismo piece

After the second time I'd have just gone with ZSpeed (actually I'd have just gone with ZSpeed to begin with) but good luck... hopefully the third time is the charm

i did have a zspeed. i sold it to get the z1 beausee I liked the bigger access panel

Well z1 sent me the wrong one first go round, and I had to contact them return the incorrect one and waiting until they received it and then sent back out the correct one almost 2 weeks later go around, I just received mine today actually that we are taking about it. For me it looks like they sent me the correct one judging from the outside sticker! I will need to open it and look to see as well!

The biggest diff is the forward panel. If it’s completely flat the. It’s for the base model
If it’s kinked/bent then it’s nismo

The dudes at the warehouse clearly do not have this item sorted out properly

They’ve had to pay shipping ...twice for me, one extra time for you now

Honestly don’t know good question? Since Z1 screwed me I have not ordered anything from them. My take is they think they have Z owners by the balls and we have to order from them. Think again Z1 I have found other vendors that deserve my business.

Nice now hopefully you got a 25/64 or 10mm drill bit, and get that baby installed :)

This ish looks 5 times more complicated than the ZSpeed Nismo undertray. And all those angles look like a great way to catch and hold roadkill into the undertray until part of the panel tears off, starts dragging on the asphalt, and catches on fire. Speaking from 350Z experience.

Pics please. Glad they took care if your issue. I had TBW and it was a straightforward install. Not sure if they have one for a Nismo though.
