DIY Guide?

You need to hold it up as you close the door......>

Okay I'm all done. I'm mildly retarded so it took about an hour. The issues I had were that the Napa filter (made in china) had all four corners that were not flush so it was nearly impossible to close the filter door. I simply trimmed the corners with some sharp scissors and and then it closed fine. Once I looked in there with a flashlight it was obvious that the filter is held above the fan with those little feet in the front and back.

The only other issue I has was reattaching the little cable that puts tension on the glove box door. All done now with no broken parts!

So for those with a 2010 model this is exactly the same procedure?

Yes, but the 2010 already has the filter installed from the factory..

Anyone have trouble with the recirculate/fresh air motor after this mod? Mine is clicking in recirculation mode, curious to see if I screwed up something during the install

I did the install in my garage while it was raining. I'll fire it up tomorrow and make sure there aren't any issues. I'd assume that your filter is not in the housing correctly and when the internals try and move the filter is in the way.

And how much are they? I'd bet they are at least $40.

I believe it was about $26 ( I will find out for you tomorrow). Dealer told me they didn't have them on stock but if I order, it will be here in 2 days. I told the parts guy, I'll be back later. This was 3 weeks ago.

Yup...The early DIY's on this used incorrectly sized (thickness) filters. Since we've come up with the right one there should not be an issue. There are rails to the rear of the compartment that hold the filter up, as do the Tabs on the door. (see my pic a few posts up). If the element is not held up it could be interfering with the fan..

Yup, $26 bucks. Ordered mine today. I'll try to do the DIY this weekend.

Thanks for the info, please take a picture of it when you get it. I'm curious to see the difference in quality. I paid $19 for mine at Napa.

My recirculate mode was clicking because the cabin filter was so thick that it interfered with the door that goes from recirclate to open. I have to buy a smaller one, I bought a filter that was for a Maxima. It is too thick
