Fob issue

Hi All,

First post, nice to meet everyone.

For some time now my 2010 Anniversary Z has been dealing with a key FOB issue, as both FOBS just up and quit on me one day. I’ve been forced to use the key to open the door and insert the FOB into the dock to start the car. Now, this all happened just after*I replaced my car battery with both FOBS refusing to work at the same time. I thought something might have wiggled free during the battery replacement, but that wasn’t the case. Of course, I went through the standard checks and tried looking for the easy cause*and fix. FOB batteries replaced, done many times. Took to a couple Nissan dealers to reprogram keys, didn’t work, even though it showed the keys were throwing off a signal. The dealer checked for some loose wiring between BCM and key dock, no issue there.*Nissan’s background diagnostic check indicated a possible communication issue with the BCM possibly being the culprit. Unfortunately, Nissan discontinues manufacturing BCMs after seven years, so I had to source a used one from EBAY that meets the specifications*or replacement of my specific BCM. Now I gave that to Nissan to install and they called yesterday saying the car is still fighting them. Now it’s getting to the point of what to do next. Any ideas? Would an after-market product fix this?
*

Now some additional background

Car had a lojack preinstalled, had that removed before Nissan would work on it. They thought there might have been wires cut or disconnected after removal, all of it checked out.

There was a recall that was performed on the car, for a steering lock from recollection, not sure if this would have anything to do with it.

Thanks,

C

Sounds like the steering lock issue. Doesn’t the dealer know about this?

IIRC, if the problem is the steering lock, the car won't start even with the fob in the dock.

I'd check the antennae. Locations and more info in the FSM (link in sig).

AH! My bad! I missed the part where it starts with the fob in the dock.

My apologies!

I’ll be over here if anyone needs me...
