Price Check: Front Bumper Paint (Fiberglass)
I've been asking around shops in my area for a quote to get a fiberglass aftermarket front bumper painted to match the brilliant silver color (K23) and the prices seem a little high. The highest I've received is 1200 (!) and the lowest so far is 800. While I don't mind paying for a good job, is that really the average prices right now? I had a feeling it would be closer to around 500-700. I have had the feeling that these guys don't want to work on a fiberglass bumper as they said its a hassle. So maybe the price hikes are to turn me off on going with them?
Has anyone with a metallic paint code get anything repainted? Were the prices high? |

yeah I asked other car friends around my area (non z owners) and they agree that the prices are high too. Just wasn't sure if our cars were special or something lol.

to clarify:
i have the OEM pearl white, which apparently requires some work to match since it has triple pearl something something in the coating The silver should be cheaper; AFAIK there is nothing particularly special about the stock silver

To get my pearl white bumper resprayed, it was quoted around $700. That's from a quality shop.
Fiberglass ******* sucks. Dunno if you've already bought it, but I'd avoid it. |

I think this heavily depends on how bad the fit of the bumper is. If bad, it is a TON of labor to get these things looking right. Did you buy a quality part or some duraflex stuff?

I have only heard good things about shine's fitment. If the fit is good, I would expect to find a better deal..but as the other poster mentioned, you are in SJC =)

If the fit is dead-on-balls-accurate, you might consider painting it yourself. I have seen another member use AutomotiveTouchup spraycans and 2k clear cans to get a professional result painting a brand new bumper. I think he had to do some extra finish work to clear up orange peel from using cans, but it still looked great when he finished and was a fraction of the cost.

This is assuming it was pre fit. If I was doing it I would charge $900.00 |

Hi guys, this is my first hand experience with painting fiberglass;
I work for Epic Doors which manufactures high-performance fiberglass entry doors. We evaluated several paint suppliers including TruCoat 623, Sherwin Williams Polane 2K Acrylic, and Aquasurtech D200. We were looking for an environmentally friendly, single component water based paint that was super durable, had great adhesion and laid down smooth. Based upon our evaluation we selected TruCoat 623. It was much more environmentally friendly than Polane 2K and is a single component and TruCoat had better adhesion than D200 and was priced better. |

If you drive outside of SJ, you'd find it cheaper. Shops over there know, people will pay because silicone valley. Take it elsewhere. It should start at $400 a panel and depends on additional work.
