I would never let anyone remove my door panels. Every other car I had that had the door panels removed for whatever reason, it came back with a rattle resulting from the trim clips being broken off. Even with my 370 when I had the reversing sensors installed they broke off clips in the back. I could hear the broken bits flying from side to side when taking a corner.

I had that issue with my passenger window tint even that I don't even roll the window down. The shop took care of it a week ago. So far no problems.

Here's some thoughts on the tint install for our cars:
- My installer put a clamp on the button that turns the interior light on and off, and makes the window go up and down when you open or close the door. This kept the window up during the install. If you were concerned about the dreaded peel, you could somehow rig the button to stay depressed. Duct tape? - My installer removed the top trim from the door to make it easier for him to apply the tint well below the window seal. This was achieved by popping off the trim plate behind the door handle and undoing one bolt. It was quick and painless and made his job much easier and the final outcome cleaner. Sorry I didn't take a pic of that part.

Got mine done today. Will wait to see if problems occur. When I explained about the problem, he said it was no big deal and (I didn't know this) that some Mustangs (I think that's what he said) have the same "auto-window" function as the Z. They put tape to fool the door (and keep the window up) and put the edge of the film below the top of the door trim. He acted like it was no big deal and nothing to worry about, so time will tell. They are the ones who did both our RSXs and people would sometimes ask me if the RSX came from the factory like that.
Anyway...crossing my fingers.

The guy that did mine just disabled the window mechanicism so the window stayed up. So far no issues when it was redone. About two months now.

My passenger peeled. Installer redid it . defeated the switch so the window stayed up. Parked the car for four days. So far no issues after a few weeks.

LOL, decided to bring this thread back from the dead.
So, as you know, I took back to my dealership to get the tint fixed. First time- passenger side peeling. Second time- passenger side had bubbles in the attempt to fix it. The excuse they gave me was that the cold weather didn't allow it to properly set. Ok fine, I'll believe that. So I wait until the summer hits. In TX, we're hitting 95+ degree weather right now, so its the perfect time to get it done. I take it back to get redone and they say they'll go ahead and redo all the windows (I pointed out bubbles in some other windows too). Fantastic. I dropped it off earlier this week to get the windows redone and the drivers seat TSB taken care of. Since they had to order the washers for the seat, it would take a few days. No problem, that allows the car to sit in the sun and the tint to set properly. I pick up the car today and what do I notice? They only retinted one window- the driver side. Ironically, that's the one that was perfect to begin with. I tell the head dealer there and all he says is "bring it back in and we'll take care of it." F THAT. I will not be subjected to additional disappoint and inconvenience. This is two more times than I wanted to bring my car in for something that should have been done right the first time. On the way home I also hear a slight rattle in the driver side door. It wasn't there when I dropped it off. Absurd. I'm pissed. I wrote an email to the dealer and told him that I'm not bringing it back and I'm just going to take it to a reputable tint shop here in Dallas. The amount of time wasted on something so trivial is beyond the cost of the original tint now. I don't think I will ever get anything serviced by Courtesy Nissan of Richardson again. I wrote a letter to Nissan corporate also, who knows what will come out of it, I would guess nothing. But at least it gave me an opportunity to vent. Anyone know of a good tint shop in the Dallas area? |

hahahah, so i spoke to the service manager after he was contacted by nissan corporate and he was really eager to fix this. i decide to be nice and take it in. they redid it. it might actually be worse this time! there's bubbles, but i'll let the z sit in the sun to let it cure. i notice a few spots where it looks like its scratched however, as if the installer was applying it and whatever flat edge he was using got caught and stretched/scratched it. Courtesy Nissan is now comically horrible. I'll give it a few days though and let everything cure. Somehow I don't think the curing process can get rid of the scratches lol.
I guess the next step post-fail is to write another letter to Nissan and a letter to the BBB. Also gotta find a good tint installer in Dallas. |

I worked in a tint shop for many years, you might see what appears to be bubbles but is only trapped water/lubricant. If it doesn't clear up in a day or so in this heat then there's a problem. The scratches you see may just be from using the squeegee and not cleaning the window film after. When it drys up try cleaning the inside of the window with an ammonia free cleaner. If the lines don't come off then bring it back.

What's hilarious is that the head dealer/manager at Courtesy said he "personally inspected it"...What a load of crap. It can't be THAT difficult to install tint can it? |

Honestly doing a really good job isn't very easy. For sure if they don't have an actual tint bay set up there. It's pretty easy to get small specks of trash in a job. If there's a tear that's crazy, it should've been ripped right off and replaced. It benefits the tinter to replace stuff immediately since the glue hasn't set yet. I'd force them to let you go elsewhere.
