Headlight overlays

Just curious as to what yall think about the Z having headlight/taillight overlays. I would love to get mine taken apart and painted but am worried about getting condensation after awhile. I've seen a few 370z's with overlays and it looked good..as long as you dont go to dark. What do you's think?!!

At this point i've only seen taillight overlays. Not sure where exactly they got them from but what I saw I liked. I am iffy on the idea of headlight overlays though. I'd have to see some before I first.

since you have a black Z, it would look great to get a full smoke tail light overlay.

**This is not my 370Z, Do not PM me...LoL!!!**

Why would you worry about condensation? Blacking out the housing has been done many times and I havent seen any issues

SophiaZ 01-01-2010 09:33 PM

Condensation happens over time. And since the Z lights are a good $600-700 per light..I'm not sure if I want to risk this issue. I also don't know crap about taking apart lights...so the overlays seem abit more on my level

SophiaZ 01-01-2010 09:34 PM

Looks great! Is that the dark or light? I ordered the light cuz I dont want to risk losing too much visibility..

nogoodname 01-01-2010 09:35 PM

have a pro paint it for you. have a road trip to 180_Customs in NYC

oh, those are the dark ones...

SophiaZ 01-01-2010 09:36 PM

They'll do the housing?

Definitely considering it. And now after seeing those pics maybe even the headlights.

they'll do the housing, shrouds, reflectors.... anything... LEDs too.

they have been doing them for quite some time now and never heard of anything bad. there was this one time where someone had condensation, they took it back and fixed it.. wasnt seal properly.

SophiaZ 01-01-2010 09:44 PM

Good to know! Do you have any idea how long it takes for them to do it? I don't have a second car so I'd be stuck if they needed it for days

nogoodname 01-01-2010 09:45 PM

you would have to call them in advance.. pick the colours and they'll start painting a set of housings that they have... then you would arrive and a few hours later.. the job is done. they swap the housings.

few hours

Ok, great. But at the same time..that seems abit weird. The lights are so expensive, and they just have them laying around waiting to get painted..and only charge roughly..$150? But if thats true and if they are in fact the real lights..thats perfect! I'll check them out this week...do they have a website?

370Zsteve 01-01-2010 09:55 PM

180 is highly recommended

they have the housings laying around... it's called a core swap.... they paint one ahead of time for you.. then you come in and they mod ur headlight set with the prepainted housing.... they will keep the unpainted housing for the next customer.

it takes like 20 mins to open up a headlight for them.

Sophie,

Read these threads. This is DEF the way to go for headlights (not overlay). Marco and 180 Custom both are VERY good shop. Probably the BEST NOW. Good thing is that one in east coast and one in west. You can go with either one. If you're driving, 180 custom will be closer ;)

Thanks. I'll give them a call this week and see what they can do. I thought it costs around $150, but I just added up what i want and its close to $350 + shipping. I was a bit wrong but if it's worth it, than I'll definitly do it! I just can't find anyone who'll do the tails...
