Washing Engine compartment
New to forum , yes I searched twice for engine wash, engine detail, and found nothing.
I have both a Pressure Washer and Steam Cleaner, but I’m leery of turning either looose under the hood. It’s currently spotless, and I’ve hand wiped it a few times to keep it nice. Though or success stories of steam or poeteashing engine compartment? Thanks in advance |
If you don't need to pressure/steam wash it, don't.
If your wiring connector seals are in good shape, they are splash-resistant - not designed for a high-pressure spray. |
I stick with a consistent hand wipe each time I am able when working under the hood (checking fluid levels, just finished washing car, etc.).

After I wash the exterior, I hand wash the engine bay with a dedicated sponge to get away most of the dirt. I then use a trickle spray from the hose to rinse. I've done every one of my cars like this since 1984 and have had zero issues with water intrusion.
If you want, you can start the car afterwards and let the heat of the engine dry it completely... |
