Quarter Panel paint damage

2 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, I was just struck by my community's automatic door gate on the quarter panel, (It really should be my fault for not stopping completely on the STOP, because the gate was already wide open at the time, and shut on me when I passed it.) Is there any suggestion on what to do?
Do I just take a fat L and see how much it'll cost me to repaint the quarter panel? Or should I file an insurance claim. Any advice and tips will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure how much your deductible is, but for my white pearl, it cost me 700$ for a door dent. From the looks of it you're probably in the same ballpark depending on reputable shop or not. I'm no paint expert though its just my humble opinion.

I would first get a quote, then talk to your agent. Your monthly premium may go up if you file a claim. If it does, ask how much the increase would be, and for how long. Calculate the total increase with deductable, then choose which would be cheaper - pay out of pocket or file a claim.

Yea, I just got a quote from the most reputable collision shop here for right around the $2000 spot  I will also call my agent to check in on the best resolution today. Thank you for the advice!

Thank you, I will need all the luck on this, I might cave in for the $2k pricing (Main cost including: $1,000 on body labor, $400 on paint labor, $300 on paint supplies, etc.) because both shops I went to just now gave the similar estimates. Dealership finance team suggest not contacting the insurance agency, and do this privately.

Use this as an excuse to go widebody? lol

But yeah as others have mentioned, call into your insurance, you dont even have to mention who you are.. just ask them if your rates would go up... if it does, pay out of pocket cause paying a higher rate in the long run will cost you more.

CRiZO 07-27-2018 05:59 PM

Then it's decided, you're going widebody.

I'd agree if you have 2k to spare. I contacted Geico once "just to see" and they put it as an unpaid claim on my history. Didn't affect my rates, but still, wtf.

Haha, I would love to use this as an excuse to do some body work to my car, but I already have my Fast Intention Exhaust coming in next week, (haven't pay the total yet) and get my State Ref ticket (plus court) sorted out :roflpuke2:

Just an update to anyone interested. I went and handled this privately without insurance, and didn't get compensated by the Homeowner Association. (they were being *** about this incidents.)

Luckily the agents who handles the insurance, introduced me to a collision body work place in La Puente, CA, and got the frame fixed, repainted, and side trim back on for $900.

I believe the owner's name was Alex, he did a great job, and took only 1 and a half day to fix. No appointment, he just straight up took me in and told me to come back in two days.

If any of you SoCal guys are looking for body repairs, maybe hit this guy up. Collision center located on 13962 Valley BLVD, La Puente, CA 91746. Check the images for reference. :happydance:

glad that it worked out for you. that's a great price...

how well does the repaint match the original? does it look perfectly match from afar?

I tried very hard to find any sort of mistakes on repaint matched to oem but honestly can't find any. Whether in sun light, shade, or with flash light shined on it. Same 3 stage paint stuff / labor hours as the other collision center, but just half the price off!

Highly recommended! Roughly $400 per panel basically.
