Quick Question on Volts Gauge

Hello, today I started my car (2017 6spd Man.) and I noticed the Voltage gauge was way past pegged. I’m talking the point almost to resting position. Then when I stopped the vehicle and powered down it rested at around 10v. Normally all the gauges reset on powerdown. I let the car sit for about 5-6 hours, when I re-entered it was in its resting position and after starting it was sitting at its normal 14v. My question is this a small glitch or something to be concerned over? Thanks for any and all help.

It almost sounds like the needle wasnt calibrated. Did the guages do the self test at startup? You can test the battery with a voltage meter. It should read 12.6+ volts with the engine off and test your alternator. I think Autozone can do these tests for you if youre unsure.

The gauges are not spring-return-to-zero and can come to rest in any position. If the gauges are passing the self-test on startup (see Owner's Manual) and the gauge is reading accurately (you can verify with a multimeter), I wouldn't worry about it.
