Misalignment between hood and pillars?
Hey guys. I recently got a brand new 370Z sport tech pearl white M/T. In love. But! Quick question. (First time Z owner), I noticed the hood is not perfectly aligned with the A and B pillars. I know the pillar outside pieces (the end part that meets with the hood) are plasticky, not sure if that’s the issue as you can move them a little bit easily with your hands.
Any takes on this? She had 8 miles when I bought it. So... anything to worry about? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Not too worry you, and I mentioned it on here before, depending on the state you live in, there can be undisclosed damage that has been repaired, depending on how much or percentage.
|
No misalignment anywhere on my ‘16 Nismo. Actually, it’s the car with the best panel gaps I’ve ever had. But being a previous ‘03 Corvette owner, my standards may be extremely low.......lol.
|
I experienced misalignment on my '17 Sport - different areas.
My hatch door would not seal and the hatch-to-bumper cover gap was excessive, even after adjusting the lock as far down as it would go. I had to "make modifications" to get it right. The top leading edge of my passenger door sticks out past the rear fender enough to notice as well .. I left that alone. Every thing else is diamond. No prior collision damage to mine either … I was kind'a surprised Nissan let it out of the factory that way. |

It may be just that. I was just a little surprised. Guess I’ll have to stop looking at that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Oh man. You just worried me! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I have the exact same car and mine is perfect all around. The only thing I see on mine is the passenger window drops a little more than the drivers.
Was yours in dealer stock, dealer traded, or pulled from port? |
Lemon. Lol
I would bring it back. Mine are fine and should be really tight on yours |

It was dealer traded. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
if its brand new, i'd go back to the dealer
IIRC, the hood alignment can be fixed be loosening the bolts and retightening after adjustment |
Do you know what dealer? The only white one I knew of per Nissan inventory was up in Maryland.

Mine came from Ed Martin in Indianapolis. I got it dealer traded to Florida. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Wow! That's quite far for a dealer trade. A couple of weeks ago I checked inventory and there were 11 Sport Tech manuals nationwide. Rare model for sure.

Well. Mine is a sport tech Manual pearl white. When I was looking for mine there were three nationwide. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...957c3d0797.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Mine is exactly the same. My dealer was tight with rep and pulled it from port.
|
Can you post a picture of misalignment?
|
I’m thinking that there are only a handful of 2018 Pearl White Sport Tech manuals produced.

2019’s on the website now. Difference? I guess price? Ours is $37,500 msrp and now you can get the touring sport tech for $38,800. So I am kinda bummed as the cooled and powered seats would have been cool to have but the 2018 was considerably more expensive and even more rare to find so. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yeah. Will do once I get to my car (shopping with the wife). You’ll probably blame it on my OCD but it’s there. Not a big big deal but it’s just questionable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I noticed the 2019 models also. Those may be mostly automatics. The likelihood of finding a PW in manual would be even more difficult. Were you able to negotiate a decent deal since it was a dealer trade?

Definitely. Well. They got it down to $36,200 but OTD was still about $39,000. Plus I added extended warranty (want to take it back now but too late). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
You can probably back out of extended warranty if that’s what you meant. It depends on state law I think. Btw. My sticker was $38,725 including destination, paint, splash guards, and mats.

Oh okay. So I guess the touring now is just cheaper. My sticker price was slightly lower at 37,800 I believe. Yeah I’ll consider backing out from the warranty. It may or may not be needed but it may not hurt to keep it. I include some pictures below. Maybe you can notice it. I may or may not have used the wrong wording on my title. Reason why is because I believe what is a little off is the plastic ends of the pillars themselves. You’ll see what I mean from the pics. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e27bfe4824.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ef69bf6bf4.jpg See how the left side pillar is a little higher than the hood? The right sight seems mostly okay. Let me know if you can notice what I mean. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I see what you’re saying. My pillar is slightly higher but consistent on both sides. I wouldn’t be conserned about it. These cars are screwed together really well. Look at the panel fit on a new mustang with a sticker approaching 50 large. No comparison.
Also, I’m using a roll on paint protection film to protect the nose, hood, pillars, mirrors, and rockers. Road Warrior Plus | Paint Protection that you ROLL ON! Car Truck RV Motorcycle Clear Bra. It’s water based. I have it on my Z which doesn’t get driven in the rain and my truck just on the body color bumper. |
Misalignment between hood and pillars?

That seems pretty good. I’ll probably give it a shot. Being a first time Z owner I just did not know what to expect so maybe my OCD is looking for imperfections. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I’m like you...lol. What’s the build date on yours? It’s on the sticker in drivers door jamb.
I’m a first time Z owner as well. |

Lol yeah. It’s 07/2017. I was surprised the dealer got it in Feb 2018. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Mine is 04/2017. I picked it first week of November. It took 2 weeks to arrive from port in Jacksonville. Have no idea how long it was sitting there. The GTR mechanic did the PDI on it.

I wish I knew who did the PDI on it . Have you taken it for an oil change yet? If so, which dealership would you recommend in central Florida? The reason I ask is because Nissan dealerships around here seem empty and just maybe even a little sketchy? However I take my wife’s Honda Accord for service and it’s like going to the Lexus dealership for service. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I change my own oil with Nissan Ester and Nissan oil filter. Got both from Conyers Nissan on EBay cheap with free shipping. They are a good place for parts. The only guy touching my car if necessary at my dealer is the GTR technician. Not sure about central Florida dealers. Check through the posts on this forum for recommendations.
