Default HDD-based Navi

OK, so help an old coot out.

Tried Wiki (no definition). Tried Google (too many bad hits). Tried the Owners Manual in the stickies but apparently, there is a separate navigation manual aside from the owners manual so...

Basically, does this mean one gets updates and applies them via bluetooth or USB or something? Or does it have to have a monthly rental plan? Can one have map navigation but not have to have a monthly subscription?

navigation never should require a month subscription

do you want to update the maps? I believe you have to purchase a CD which is like $170 or something to update your naviagtion maps.

Other than theres no monthly fee. i don't really understand what your asking so... sorry..

Only experience I ever had with map navigation was loaner cars from Acura.

I thought they required updates, like the Garmin portable navigation devices. I mean, new roads are built all the time and restaurants, service stations are built all the time so...how does that get put in the system?

I understand Sirius requires monthly money. Don't need that--my iPod is about all I listen to music on any more.

Like The Weapon said, you only need to buy updates if you want them. You will get by 90% of the time without updating the maps.

The updates are often released on an annual basis. I've had OEM Navi on a few cars and never updated the maps and never had an issue.

Thanks again. I guess I'll not let it bother me, then. (should I make that kind of decision)

You can buy updates here:
NAVTEQ - Maps for your Nissan Navigation System

It looks like it cost $130 + whatever that dealership charges for uploading it. I though that it was user-updatable via compact flash, but evidently not.

Also, if you want the Nav tied into XM NavTraffic, that is a subscription that does cost money, but it's not required.

Thanks for the info. I imagine the dealership charges half a unit (or maybe even a full unit... LOL).

It would seem like they would allow flash drive update but without thinking it through, perhaps this is a way of helping curb theft of the map data.
