Default Question to those that have smoked their headlights

Hey guys I’m planning on smoking my headlights tomorrow. I figured since the high is 45 degrees where I live it’s be a good day. I’ve seen some DIY instructions on here and videos on YouTube of how to do it. It doesn’t look too bad. I have some experience with working on cars but not a lot. Before I work on this tomorrow I want to ask how hard doing this actually is? And how long did it take you guys to do? I want to make sure I can succeed at this and not break anything because our headlights are costly

Subbed. Interested in this also - you are planning to paint the inside right? not smoke the outside?

I would not recommend doing it yourself if you have no experience, as replacing your lights isn't cheap.

What exactly are you trying to do?

Are you:
1) Spraying some cheap tint crap from Autozone on the outside? DO NOT DO THAT. It looks like crap.

2) Opening your headlights and spraying cheap tint crap from Autozone on the inside? DO NOT DO THAT, IT LOOKS LIKE CRAP.

What exactly are you trying to achieve?

A good wrap/tint shop could probably apply tinted film to the lense from the outside, which is a reversible process. There's diff options u can use, like the rainbow stuff, or just a dark film.

To truly change your headlights, you need to unseal and open them up, do some small diassembly, and use quality paint that isn't runny and that will stand up so some heat. Then you need to use quality sealant to close the headlight so there isn't condensation or other leakage

What it sounds like you're doing seems like disaster

I personally wouldn't tint the headlight lenses, have them opened up and have the shrouds painted.

DIY: how to make your headlights black housing with 20 bucks... this is the diy I was going to follow. The paint is satin black krylon fusion. It is paint that is meant for plastic

I would open them up and paint the shrouds. I like how your headlights look. That is what I'm going for

That's the route to go then. Mine just have the shrouds painted. Kind of gives the impression that the lenses are tinted but you still get full lighting.

I know in Cali it's No No and your just asking to get pulled over

Never mind the fact that whens its dark out or rainy your visibility is going to be poor.

I know it looks cool and all but it comes with a price. Just my

@Zatanna I think almost everyone has misunderstood you. Usually "smoke" gets taken as tinting the lens and not painting the inside.
