On another note, any of y'all running undershields?
I feel as even aftermarket shields should have bigger louvers after the radiator. I installed a homemade shield and cooling efficiency took a small dip but hood doesnt dance at high speeds. |

That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Wait, what were we talking about?

You have to cut through the bracing under the skin. No way out of it. You got 2 different rivets with the vents. The shorter ones are aluminum. The longer ones are steel. Use the short ones where you are just riveting through the vent and the skin. Use the longer ones where you are riveting through the vent, skin and bracing. I've been involved with about 7 sets of vent installs. Tip, if you can, just rivet through the vent and skin. Going through the bracing too is tough. You can go to a body shop and get some of the putty they use to hold body panels together and stuff it between the bracing and skin. I make rain shields that go under the vent to help redirect most of the water. The water that goes through the vents get directed to the front of the motor. You still have air flow out at speed. They are held in place with zip-ties. I've made over 20 sets of them so far. Never had a negative comment on them. No buddy has said anything to me.

Yep, i did cut the skin but i kept it cut to the same size opening as the top. I was thinking of cutting it more so you wouldn't see it through the vents at some angles. I just didn't want to cut too much and my hood become all floppy or something.
And yes I did paint the edges to be safe and for looks. I noticed no water touched the engine when i washed it. It fell between the front and radiator, but i can't drive my car in any heavy rains anyways. I'm too afraid to hydrolock my motor with the turbo on the bottom. In AZ when it does rain it freaken floods bad like I get literally surrounded by rushing water around my home. Otherwise we are dry. What i was referring to is the water that pisses out from the vent between the lip and hood. I was thinking of using some 3m double side stick tape similar to what's on the rear lip to help not collect so much water under there when i wash the car. Rusty just out of curiosity can you show me your shields you made and How muchy?

I have had the vents since the beginning. I think I was the first one to get them installed after the first set was installed by Trackspec. To be honest they drain really well. I have run them in the rain and I was surprised how little water if any got in the bay. I washed my car without covering the vents and placed towels over the motor and again not much water at all. I think the biggest need is if the car is sitting for a prolong period of time in the rain. Fork up the payola and get a set of Rusty Rain Shields. I have a set!!!
