You have to cut through the bracing under the skin. No way out of it. You got 2 different rivets with the vents. The shorter ones are aluminum. The longer ones are steel. Use the short ones where you are just riveting through the vent and the skin. Use the longer ones where you are riveting through the vent, skin and bracing. I've been involved with about 7 sets of vent installs. Tip, if you can, just rivet through the vent and skin. Going through the bracing too is tough. You can go to a body shop and get some of the putty they use to hold body panels together and stuff it between the bracing and skin. I make rain shields that go under the vent to help redirect most of the water. The water that goes through the vents get directed to the front of the motor. You still have air flow out at speed. They are held in place with zip-ties. I've made over 20 sets of them so far. Never had a negative comment on them. No buddy has said anything to me.
