I just took a hard look at the pictures on the site and they are of a Nismo. The side skirts are a dead give away.

I got blasted by some rocks when a guy went off track and flipped them out to me, ended up with a bunch of chips and a broken windshield. I might need to pick this up before I repaint my hood...

Disclaimer: This isnt a how-to, just providing some info that might help others.
Tools: Harbor Freight 4" corded angle grinder [HF #60373] SAS adjustable Face Shield [HF #46526] Safety Glasses Dust mask Diablo 4"x .040" (1mm) Metal Cut Off Wheel [Home Depot #247559] Blue painters tape Moving blankets [HF] Plastic Exacto knife 2 testosterone filled sacs Tool Notes: Cut Off Wheel - I purchased 2 but you'll only need 1. Safety - I used a face shield and safety glasses. I used a dust mask and some ear plugs too. Make sure you re-adjust the angle grinder shield to best protect you. Exacto knife - Used to cut and peel off the template guide lines. I spent a good amount of time doing this. Prep Notes: Blankets/Plastic - You'll want to cover the entire engine bay and from the top the windshield forward. The aluminum dust gets everywhere. Masking - I taped off a huge swath of each side for the side vents. Only on the top, I did not mask the underside of the hood. Cutting Notes: General - Let the tool do the work. Dont push to vigoursly trying to cut through faster. For each straight edge I made some back and forth motions, slowly and carefully, across the entire length to start a groove/cut line. I then plunged about 1/4 of the way from a corner, backed into the corner then proceeded the rest of the length. Corners - The corners are a bit tough. Just keep an eye on your cut line and dont overshoot. Most of the corners turned out ok but 2 of them I had to take a longer look at to do them properly. Finishing notes: I vacuumed all the dust up from the enginer bay and all around. I used a dremel with a cylindrcal sanding disc to smooth out the edges. Although this was good I am going to get a small file as I need to smooth our the space between the ribs that were cut. I will also paint anything cut and let it dry before finishing the install. I spent about 2 weeks agonizing over using different angle grinders or a jigsaw. I went with the angle grinder because of the many videos I watched and it was noted it was more likely faster. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Krylon; 02-25-2018 at 09:08 PM. Reason: pic sizes |

Some new notes and observations:
On my Z, a 2009, the outer most edges of the vents where the rivets must go are inside of a underhood rib. It'll be difficult to hold a washer in between the rib and the hood skin unless you cut the rib back some or cut some access holes. I chose to make holes and a use a special tool but I believe cutting it back or cutting an access section may be easier. What I ended up doing was marking where the middle 2 rivet holes would be by using a long piece of painters tape. The outer corner rivet holes were marked by drilling straight down. You may be able to do this for the middle holes as well. I drilled small holes, 1/8", from the underside. I then took a step drill bit and drilled a larger hole. Be careful because you dont want to go through the top of the hood, I only stepped through 3 or 4. I worked up to a 1/2 inch hole using regular drill bits. I then used a 1/4" ratchet extension with a rivet taped on the end and used it to hold the backer washer in place while I used the rivet gun. The needle nose pliers I used were too thick to open up enough to hold the washer in place. Some tape was left behind but no one will see it. Additional template notes - On the template there are 4 squares in each corner and these represent the corner rivets. You need to keep these spots marked on the car as it'll help your square up the vent placement. Luckily I center punched these holes from the template and had them marked. Riveting - I did this by myself but if you can get someone to assist that would definitely make this part easier. There is a note in the instructions that mention you should tape around the rivets to prevent the rivet gun from jumping and making a mark. Absolutely do this. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I know this is a super late reply, but I installed mine, and after a few weeks of off/on rain here in TX, I killed one of my plugs. Now what happened was, water leaked down on cylinder 2, and it went past the coil boot insulator, and did have some build up. So I threw on a very minute bead of silicone to help seal it up. But just wanted to give you guys a heads up. My Z is my semi daily driver (I have another car, but prefer to drive the z, I'm sure you guys understand lol), and does NOT get parked in a garage.
