Steering lock issue.. how to tow?!
For those who had to tow their beloved nissan to the dealership for the steering lock issue..
How did the dealership handle your situation? Due to the issue, I cannot turn the steering wheel.. so I can.. only go straight. So apart from having trouble finding a tow that is willing to pick me up with so little space I have (a 24ft bed will be too long) and some denying a tow since it sits low stock.. how will the stealership be able to put the Z in their service garage? I had tried to disconnect the battery with fingers cross, but as I learned.. dont do that! Windows will keep rolling down as you open the door.. and wont go back up unless the car is in ACC which i cannot even do. If anyone is curious, they told me 100$ in parts plus a little less than 2 hours in labor. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

NRGz,
Check out the MANY steering lock fixes for Nissan's on YouTube. Don't just watch one of them, but watch about 5 or 6 that are for Nissan's. At that point you'll have a better idea of how to do the fix yourself, if you feel competent enough to do so. Or if not, you may have a friend who is, because he regularly works on cars. I'd sure tackle the job myself, but then I'm a backyard mechanic who has been in the back yard awhile. Good Luck! |

Did you try beating on the lock with a rubber mallet while trying to turn on the car? A number of people have had luck with that solution and never even had to tow the car. Once it's running you can just pull the fuse from the fuse block by the battery under the hood. Plenty of DIY info on this forum for how to do this.
