Intelligent Key Light On Sometimes?

A week or so ago my Intelligent key light came on and remained on for a couple of days. I was resigned to going to the Dealer but the light mysteriously went out again.

Two days ago it came back on but on the way to the Dealer it went out again. I told the Dealer it happened with both keyfobs and he suggested I change both of the key fob batteries.

I did this but tonight the light came back on. However I stopped the car at a shop and when I returned to the car and unlocked the car the light wasn't on any more.

Car has only done 1500 miles, any suggestions as to the cause?

If the light stays out, then a battery was the problem (or corrosion on the battery holder). Some things take a while to auto-reset and you may not have given the system enough time when you swapped fobs and had the "hot" fob in the car.

If the light comes back on, find out if any DTCs have been thrown. Many auto parts stores will lend/rent OBD code readers. Or they can be bought for $20-40 (or more for more sophisticated models).

Thanks for the suggestions but the car is six months old and I really doubt it was the fob batteries but changed both of them anyway The second fob has never even been used.

Your phone or other electronic device might be causing some interference if too close to the key fob.

just chiming in on this, but I had the light come on and go off a few times for me over a span of 2 months. then suddenly it came on and never went off. replaced the batteries in the FOB's but still the light stayed on. then a few weeks after the car stopped starting unless I put the keys in the cup holder or the key holder in the dash by the drivers legs.

After not being able to fix it myself I finally went to the dealer. Charged me $180 CAD just to diagnose the problem. apparently the antenna is situated right where the cup holder is and they said it was faulty. Was not under warranty so was told it would be $900 CAD to fix. I would rather just put the key in the fob holder then spend that kind of money to turn the dash light off.

hope this helps!

Since the OP's car is still under warranty he better take it in just in case it's the same problem and before his warranty expires. :owned:

Thank you all for the comments. I took it to the dealer today and they wanted to book it in for a day for tests.

Call me pessimistic but I will keep the car until the light stays on permanently and then book it in.

I guarantee that currently they won't find anything wrong as the light has been off for three days now.

I did promise them I will take a picture next time it comes on though.

The car went in for its first service recently and I asked them to investigate the key light randomly coming on.

Despite having replaced both key fob batteries the dealer claimed my key fob battery was "weak" and needed replacing.

I paid the exorbitant Nissan battery price and replaced the battery in the presence of the Service guy.

Two days later the light came back on and has continued to do it since.

It has since been back in and they reprogrammed both key fobs and they now claim they have been in touch with Nissan and the only other cause is driving with my foot resting on the clutch pedal :icon18:

However, if it continues I should get back in touch.

To keep it in perspective I have made notes on my phone and the light came on after first service at:

3560 miles
3579 miles
3619 miles
3656 miles
3686 miles

The car came back yesterday when they reprogrammed the key fobs so I hope the light stays off. :driving:
