Thanks, from what I read it looks like he was using a different product off of Amazon. Not the same stuff. Maybe I'm mistaken but it looks like he was using something else. The product in reference comes from Australia.

It's only $50, I might go ahead and be the guinea pig for us, unless someone chimes in and says; "I used that exact product and it does not work."

It runs from the windshield straight back to the glove box. It has not opened up into a full crack yet but it looks like an ugly seam.

I'll soon be reupholstering my M3 seats so I am going to have them look at the Z dash also and see what they have to say about the matter.

Good luck and please keep us posted about this. My dash hasn't cracked yet, but its seriously faded and gets really sticky and shiny in the sun, so I'm going to have to deal with it sooner then later.

Perhaps getting a nice dash cover is the short term solution to protect it from the heat the may result in cracks....

Any recommendation for the dash cover?

My cracks are on the sides, this won’t hide it. I’ll most likely get it replaced at the dealership, but it’s a few grand, would certainly be interested in other alternatives

I've always hated dash covers, but I'm open to seeing this one in a Z because the alternatives aren't very appealing. Replacing the dash personally isn't something I really want to do and I hate the thought of having a dealership do it for numerous reasons.

I wouldn't spend a few grand on a new dash that will eventually go bad again.

Without replacing, I imagine the only other way to truly “fix” it would be to remove the dash, sand away the top layer, then paint and texture it. But removing and installing the dash is very time consuming if I recall correctly.

If I get a new dash, I’ll make sure windows are closed when parked in the garage, leave a moisture absorbing thing inside the car, that should do it.

Agree replacement with factory isn’t the best option, but I’ve had my Z a while and have kept it in very good shape and spent a lot on upgrades, but then looking at the cracks in the dash just looks so cheap, ugh. I have to fix it eventually, it’s not my daily and I don’t plan to ever sell it.

I picked up these.
Always use a window cover.
Need to get xpel UV 70% for the windshield still.

Issue is when the sun hits the dash, the adhesive underneath begins to seep through to the top. That's the sticky residue.
Humidity and moisture are not the culprits.

It's the direct heat being applied to the dash by the sun.

isn't this thread just a bunch of posts disputing that.
lots of examples of people that garage the car year round
one dash was in an attic and still got sticky.

Might as well cover all the bases.
I've got sun blocking, will soon have uv blocking.
I protect it with carpro perl.
And now have moisture protection.

I am sure that the deterioration of the dash materials is primarily due to age, and the other factors such as UV and heat probably accelerated the process.
