The screw didn't go anywhere. He said the whole thing just ripped off all of a sudden in one quick motion, and the pillar body broke around the screw. This was on IH-35 heading south from Dallas with 75 mph speed limits - he admits he was probably speeding but not too much.

OP. If you do, for some reason buy a new pillar, I believe this is one part that actually comes painted. Around $400.

OK OP.

I checked, I don't have one of those clips.
The mechanic is an alarmist. The clip cost less than two dollars.
If you very carefully lift up on the pillar, similar to what you are doing in the video, You can get that clip out of there and slide in a new one.

See attached PDF. When you lift up on the finisher, there is a "saddle" that sits over a nib in the body. About 3 or 4 inches back.
If you carefully lift straight up, you should be able to replace that pin.

thank you for that pic, even at the dealership they opened up a diagram and looked they couldn't figure out what clip that was. I'm guessing it's what the A is pointing to. Not completely sure but in the second picture is that other "A" pointing to a bolt holding it in place behind the door?

how would you pop that clip out without breaking it?

here's a better video of where it snapped, for those who asked
https://youtu.be/ECfhtp2ql10

also what kind of clip is that called? (so I can order a new one, maybe two if i break the one behind the door)

That piece in the pic is not actually a bolt. It's a pin that the pillar "saddles" or slides over it.

I'd put a screw driver underneath the clip to push it out of the hole. Just below the "A" in this pic.

I would use a good amount of clear silicon inside and remove any excess that squeezed out. This will hold it in preventing rattles and make it so it can be removed if necessary. That clip is the only one that is accessible without removing entire pillar. Just be sure to give the Silicon several hours to cure maybe using Masking tape to secure it in the exact position you want. Hope that helps.
