Broken windshield
Alright Guys... I need everyone in this forum the most. Yesterday going home from work I noticed there were rocks hitting my vehicle at every direction. It was raining quite heavily along with strong gusts of wind. This morning I noticed there's a crack on my windshield next to my left A Pillar that stretches 6 inches toward the center.
http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&ik...742417408-1&zw What should I do? It's such a beautiful car to be running around with broken windshield. Should I make an insurance claim and bring it to Nissan for complete replacement? Or should I see if its a repairable damage to lessen the cost? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
red X of death btw...
most insurance companies cover windshields, some will even repair them with no deductable. definitely worth a call to them about this. |
Same thing happened to me last week. It's not quite six inches cracked, I'd say it was about 2 1/2. Local glass repairman came by and injected it with sealant. Crack is gone but you can still see the two indents where the rock hit. Sux because the car was recently purchased a month ago. Guy said he could replace the whole windshield with an aftermarket one for $200 plus tax. I'm still debating on whether to do it or not. Til then, every time I get in my car it's gonna bug the s#%t out of me cuz it's in my line if sight. I too am bamboozled by this. Oh, by the way, original windshield goes for $1000 from Nissan. Let me know what u decide to do

Soooo here's an update..
I called and thankfully my insurance will take care of it with $0 deductible. The thing that bothers me is that it has to be with Glass shop approved by my insurance. Dealerships do not seem to work with my auto insurance which makes my situation more complicated. I really do not trust some glass shop that may have never worked on a 370z to put some cheap glass and call it a day.:icon14: |
Are they doing a full windshield replacement or a "repair?" By the sounds of it your insurance is covering for a repair not a replacement. Also, a replacement would have to come from Nissan as there are no 3rd party front windshields yet made.

the glass will have to have the same ratings and being that it's a "custom" size (won't fit any other cars) i wouldn't worry about it. there probably isn't a "cheap" version of the glass. working on windshields and such is a special skill, so i'd trust them more than a dealer. remember, dealers don't build the cars, they no nothing about replacing windshields. just make sure the shop has insurance and is ideally a BBB member.

So today I was walking to my car just got out of work and I notice a crack on my windshield. Its about 20 inches long on the passenger side from top then curves toward the driver side like an L. I am pretty sure that the crack cannot be sealed and windshield has to be replaced. I have Allstate insurance so I do not know if there will be a deductible. I am so mad because it was not there in the morning I just wanted to break the other guys windows next to me. Does anybody know if there are aftermarket windshields already I do not want to take it to the shop and have them add a normal windshiled. I want the OEM that came with my car.
