Ground Illumination

During the last visit to service, we were given an Altima as a loaner. Wasn't thrilled about it, but it was serviceable as a point A to B driver...

A feature that impressed me was the LEDs that illuminated the ground below the doors when you unlocked the car or turned the engine off..

Is there a kit for Z's for this?

OptionZero 03-20-2017 09:48 PM

is this a joke?

This type of lighting?

If you can't find a 370Z-specific kit, it shouldn't be too difficult to modify one of the underbody lighting setups. Getting them to turn on when the door is opened shouldn't be too hard to do. Not sure how you would wire for on-when-unlocked but the FSM would be the first place I'd look.

I suppose if you bought led bulbs you could wire them to the same circut as the dome lights. Then they'd come on when you unlocked the doors or approached the car with the fob on you.

They make puddle light kits; I had one on my previous VIP "inspired" car. Can be bought for about $30-100 depending on what you want and can be wired with the dome lights so when the lights come on, they light up.

While the dome circuit may be one of the easier places to get power, it does have some drawbacks:
1) If you turn on the dome light to read a map while tooling down the highway, the ground illum will come on.
2) The fade in/out opera effect may raise havoc with the LED controller.

k, thanks to almost everyone's replies..

I'm sure the 3/4 of a pound that the bulbs and wiring would add will diminish the HP of this "sports car" somewhat, but I can live with that .. or at least my wife can live with it, since it is her car ... It's quick, but not as quick as any of my sportbikes...

its not the weight of the lighting thats laughable

its making the Z more like an altima

SOUTHZZ 03-22-2017 02:19 PM

...Wrong car for "ground illumination"
Try,Crown Vic or a used Escalade.

Troll post,right?

I'm not laughing

Tick64 03-22-2017 06:01 PM

Southzz, he's not looking to cruise around with lights on under his car. He's looking for a light to turn on under his wife's car so she can see where she's stepping... with the car parked.

I'm guessing you're single.

Troll post, right?

I'm not laughing

How did we survive 130 years of motoring without puddle lights?

Oh no, not a small luxury! I forgot the 370 is a car that doesn't need those fancy electronics, unless it's synchro rev match then it's the cat's pajamas.

cooltoy 03-22-2017 07:30 PM

I don't need synchromesh. Got by without for years just fine.
